My 2017 Mercury 50 4-stroke EFI came from the factory with an oil filter that was apparently superseded twice (unbeknownst to me at the time), and I was surprised when I couldn’t find the same part number (35-877768K01) for sale anywhere. After a bit of research in Mercury’s online parts catalogue, I found that this filter was the correct replacement so I ordered 3 of them. I don’t know, maybe Mercury is just using up old stock. One thing I noticed is that this replacement has fewer, larger holes (not concerning), and also appears to have an antidrainback valve that the one from the factory did not. Regardless, I have since put about 5 hours on the engine and the filter appears to be working as it should. No leaks or apparent oil pressure issues.
