perfect fit no more leaks just verify your brand of can

Bought these to eliminate leaks from an older gas can. Worked like a charm… just make sure you pay attention to which of the caps you are ordering so that it works with the make/model of gas can you have.

There have been so many different “standard” sizes of gas cans and spouts over the years that is it often very hard to know what will fit and what will not. I have bought lots of different EZ-POUR replacement spouts for different brands of plastic cans with excellent results. I do understand the different thread sizes used on different brands and the typical black, yellow and red color coding for EZ-POUR spouts.

I bought some of these caps to use just when transporting the cans, and the results have been mixed. On one can they work perfectly, but on another the cap is too loose and will jump the threads when trying to tighten enough to stop leaks.

Where I live I’m stuck with crap-tastic ‘eco friendly’ gas cans. I end up with more gas on the ground than the item I’m fueling! So this fabulous leak proof cap and a simple funnel do the trick. Brought one pack to try and found they fit all my cans, bought another pack ASAP. Tested caps by holding a several full cans upside down and Shaking hard. I have four different older cans, fit all perfectly. No anoying spouts to worry about when I drive the cans in to fill.

I needed to get a gas cap that would fit one of my existing 2 gallon gas cans that I could drill a hole in the center to make a fueling station for my RC (remote control) airplanes that use a 2cycle gas oil mix. I was impressed that it fit snugly, but more importantly had a nice rubber gasket to seal the cap onto the can. Project completed and works great and I have a spare I can stick on a can that doesn’t have a spout.

Does not fit on all Blitz gas cans. I have three different models of Blitz gas cans. Each one fits these caps differently.

The best fit was model #50810. It is the 2 gallon model tank. I would say this model was a perfect fit and what is expected of the product. Fits snug and tight, no leakage. I was able to hold the tank upside down while full and had no problems.

The second best fit was model #31733. A five gallon gas can. There was no leakage but something just did not seem right. It did not leak, but If I really muscled it on tight it might have jumped threads and forced a leak. As far as the leak test done, I held the can while full at a tilt for about a minute and nothing leaked out. Satisfactory fit for no leakeage transportation.

The worst fit was Blitz model #50833. Another five gallon can. The cap leaked like a sieve while tilted and full. The fit was not even satisfactory for transportation. It would leak while sloshing around. Was unable to fit the cap on proper and when tightening it would easily jump threads without effort. Definitely a huge disappointment.

This might explain why the Blitz company has gone out of business. Along with stupid people handling flammables and lawsuits. No consistency in their production methods. And changing setup costs on a production line to meet some engineers or developers changing mind. The threads and nozzles should not change much over time regardless of the size of the tank. Consistency to manufacturing processes is pretty important.

I will try to post pics of the tanks and model numbers to for better verification.

I have an old Gott gas can that has fine threads (unlike all my other gas cans that have course threads), so I need to buy a pack of these for that one gas can. Seals up well, and makes is so much easier getting gas from the station without the nozzle, cap, plus outer cap to deal with. Not to mention the seal was going bad on the old gas can cap, so these solved both my problems.

I don’t know why its impossible to find a gas can with a regular cap. They all come with these dumb pour spouts. I hate it. Just give me a regular cap, and a funnel. Its so much easier. I’m annoyed that I had to buy a regular cap seperate of the can, but the cap itself fit great. I would suggest twisting it on and off a few times before really testing it out. I put the cap on and turned the can over, and it leaked. I twisted on and off a few times, and it worked great. Maybe the cap wasn’t on all the way the first time, or maybe it didnt have a chance to seal. Either way, it works great. I don’t really have a need for two caps though, but I’ll take it if that means I can get rid of that dumb pour spout that came with the can.
