Can’t believe VW makes the timing chain guides out of plastic! Gah! Someone needs to make an aluminum upgrade. Having to buy an entire engine because of a giant car manufacturer using crap parts is sure to ruin your day. Before that happens again, I decided to replace it again. This time BEFORE it seizes the engine.
Nothing special, really. Feels the same as stock so I guess that’s good? Would prefer aluminum. …or steel …or titanium… Or adamantium – if that’s a real thing. Just take it from Logan and get to making me preventative car parts please!
The job is a pain in the booty cheeks. It takes a while just to get access. My next car is gonna be an old boat with no electronics that spy on me and get in the way. Not to mention the PLASTIC PARTS!!

OK, I’ll start by admitting that I had my team of crack mechanics at work do the install for me on this one because VW engines are like precision instruments – and I didn’t want to need to be that careful about each step, but I did watch the installation and I have driven the 2015 Tiguan (my sister’s – I’m doing her a favor) and I can attest the kit is very complete and works beautifully. Chain, guides, tensioner, sprockets – all well made, and all that we needed was here, save for a bit of RTV liquid-gasket at the end. Great value for this good of a timing kit!
