I bought a 1979 F-150 in November 2022 and I have been restoring it this summer. The old carb needed to be rebuilt after years of sitting but I ended up swapping to a new carb instead. Once we started getting air temps over 80* I noticed rough idle, hard to restart when warm and off-idle hesitation. The carb was too hot to touch when it started running like this. Did some internet sluething and due to low fuel pressures that carbs use and modern fuel blends, the fuel likes to vaporize at lower temps than it has in years past (or so the interwebs says) since most cars run modern fuel injection with much higher pressures these days this is a non-issue. So I need to keep temps down to keep the fuel from boiling in the carb…which brings me to this nifty Edeldbrock insulating gasket. I ordered this with the Edelbrock 8725 carb spacer and ARP 2002402 carb studs long enough for spacer, gasket and carb base. I’ve not had the vapor lock issues since and the carb no longer gets too hot to touch, you can touch with bare hands as much as you want at full operating temp. No longer is it difficult to start when it is at operating temp. I love when it is something basic that you can do to fix the problem.

Fixed my heat soak issue. I didn’t even have to remove the linkage or replace the studs. I was literally done in five minutes since the gasket on the carb was in good shape I just left it in place. Runs perfect. Before this I drove the car ten minutes (four miles from home to the gas station) and had to let it sit for hours before I could restart it. Aluminum manifolds are just to damned good at transferring heat. I wasted a whole can of ether trying to cool it off evaporation to no avail.

The studs that came in the pack, no way are long enough. I had extended studs on already and they still were not long enough. I am running Edelbrock manifold, Edelbrock Carb Spacer, and Edelbrock 600 CFM Carb on my 289. I assume many are running a similar setup. Had to order a set of 3.5″ studs

Other than that, was the easiest thing to instal. Feels quality and fingers crossed my vapor lock is gone.

    Worked for me .

Didn’t know how well it would isolate the heat ‘cause it’s pretty thin compared to some. I was having vapor lock and warm restart issues that I thought could be due to fuel boiling in the carb. This gasket seems to have fixed it or a least went a long way in reducing the symptoms. I can even keep my hand on the side of the carb after it’s warmed up. Before, the carb was way to hot for me to touch it for more than a second or two. Since I didn’t go with a 1″ or even higher spacer, I didn’t have any hood clearance problems or have to extend the PCV hose or have to do any radical adjustments to the carb linkage. If you’ve got vapor lock symptoms, this just might be what you need for your carbureted hot rod!

It’s made for the intake I am using. I would recommend using this product.

Nice Gasket but did not use, ordered the wrong one. Returned

My truck has a dual plane intake and a spread bore carb. Never ran right. Upon inspection I could see that the wrong base gasket had been used. It runs so much better with the correct gasket, which is thick and works as an insulator to prevent carb from boiling fuel.

This thing is pretty badass , the fact u can touch ur intake and it burns your hand and then touch your carb and it be cool to touch is amazing to me .
I had a strong fuel smell in my 73 K5 blazer and gave this a try for $20 bucks , I’m really impressed for now with its ability to stop heat , and if I can do a couple more carb installs and removals with this I’ll be even happier , highly recommend.

I guess the manifold should have been made a little high. Anyway that 3/8” of a inch raising the carb made the difference.👍
