This filter is very nicely made and fits snugly into my 1998 CR-V filter frame. It seems as good quality as the genuine Honda filters. I’ve found it needs to be replaced about every 30k miles, which is what Honda recommends – or every 15k miles in dusty/dirty conditions. When I go more than that, it noticeably reduces air flow. (Note this is the A/C and heating cabin air filter, not the engine air filter.)
This filter comes with good directions (including pictures from the Honda service manual), but here’s my summary of what’s involved so you can decide if you want to do it yourself.
1. Open the glove compartment and remove the 2 rubber bumpers by squeezing the clips together on the outside of the glove box, then push the glove box in slightly and pull them into the glove box. Put them aside. Let the glove box hang down to the floor. It is still attached to the glove box frame bar. (You can remove it if you wish, but it isn’t necessary, and is difficult to reinstall as the screws are on the back side.)
2. Remove the panel to the right of the glove box – 1 phillips screw, then wiggle it out (there’s 2 clips that will come out).
3. Remove the 2 phillips screws on the panel to the left of the glove box. This will help make room to remove the bolts on the left side of the glove box frame bar.
4. Remove the 3 bolts (1 10mm, 2 8mm) on the right side of the glove box frame bar. They are behind the panel that was removed. You may wish to look carefully at how the pieces fit together before removing the bolts.
5. Remove the same 3 bolts from the other side, pulling gently on the panel to make room for your hand and tool.
6. Take off the bar, remove the wires from the 2 clips running in front of the cabin air filter cover to move them up out of the way.
7. Remove the cabin air filter cover (pull on the clip on the bottom).
8. Slide out the cabin air filter frame. Vacuum out the cabin air filter slot if needed.
9. Remove the old filter from the frame and carefully insert the new filter so the side pleats go behind the tabs on each side. Note the air flow direction to put the filter in correctly. Air flow is right to left.
10. Slide the air filter frame back into place, replace the cover, and put everything back together.
The diagram in the instructions that comes with the filter seems to indicate removing the knee bolster to the left of the glove compartment but this is NOT helpful. The directions also say to disconnect the car battery for safety (probably because you will be working in the area of the air bag), but I don’t see that in the Honda service manual directions and don’t bother.
Total time is about 30 minutes.

According to amazon “auto garage” feature, this filter should fit my 2001 Honda CR-V. It certainly doesn’t. My CR-V takes two smaller rectangular filters that fit in slide-out trays. This is one large square filter that I couldn’t install if I wanted to. What gives?

I used this to replace the ~20 year old filter in my ’98 CRV. Not the easiest cabin filter to install, but that cannot be blamed on the product. I had no issues getting this to fit once the original was removed.
At ~$8, this is a steal considering auto part stores near me wanted $17-$30 for the same thing.
If I need another one I’ll buy again, definitely recommend.

Do not try to install this in a 1999 crv. I have the biggest headache from it. They made it way too difficult to get the left side bolts but I got it installed.
It’s an ok cabin filter for the time being. I didn’t have one prior so my cabin was smelly and it helped make it less stinky.
Fit is a little tight but I assume that is normal. Material is thin and looks like it will get super dirty with the first real use lol.
Overall it’s ok for a replacement or if you don’t have one.
I do recommend adding scent to the filter cause it will blow an aroma throughout the car. Nothing strong just like new car smell scent. Dont over do it cause it will clog up the filter.
