BE WARE: they would be easy to install and I’d give a 5 star rating but they do not tell you the pistons do not fit a Beetle convertible!!!

Clasp ends on Rod portion too large to fit on mounting point of VW Beetle.
Fortunately – they unscrewed, and I was able to use the OEM retaining clips from the OEM support struts to make these work.
Would not recommend FRO 2010 VW Beetle, unless you have a Tap and Dye set to rethread the OEM clips for use on the A/M support strut.

How did I not see any of these reviews when I was ordering this set for my 2006 beetle convertible because never would I have ever purchased them with reviews like these in the first place.. The ends at least 1/3 thicker in circumference then my original OEM part . I had to unbolt the mounting bracket off my car and install the shock to the bracket and install bracket back to car just to get them to on. On top of that they are so hard to get open. After I pop the trunk (the only thing that works right) I have to use something to pry the trunk lid up just to get my fingers underneath of it and pull the trunk lid open which only opens 2/3 of the way using these and then they don’t let the lid close all the way unless I manually push it down myself every single time I open and shut my trunk. So in short, I think that they should as another reviewer quoted. Take these off the list for fitting of Volkswagen beetle because they falsely advertise that these are perfect fit which they are not and they do not work like an OEM part are much harder to install than they should be to be considered easy to installs. And they do not extend out as far as they should to be considered as a perfect replacement part. so if I were you, I would 100% stay away from this product if you need a new set for a VW Beetle.. just sayin

I installed these on my MIL’s 2009 VW Beetle Convertible.
The plastic end of these struts (on the moving end) are too big to fit into the area where the ball stud is located. To solve this problem, you need to replace the plastic mounts on the new struts with the smaller ones from the original struts. Just unscrew the old ones and swap them out.
The new struts work and the trunk lid is now held up without needing additional support from a short stick. The old struts didn’t hold the trunk lid up at all. Since this car was purchased used, I don’t know if these aftermarket struts have higher (as one other reviewer) or equivalent lifting power than the OEM struts.
It took about 20 minutes to install both sides. All in all a very good deal compared to what VW wanted to charge to replace these.

Install was tough, had to purchase bits to pull the trunk assembly off as I wasn’t able to put on without doing that. Quickly realized that the bolts holding assembly on were different that the rest of the bolts in the area. Once installed and key fab was used to pop trunk, it wouldn’t pop open. I called VW got the P/N and ordered a second set of struts. I’m hoping that these fix the issue. Will update later. My car is a 2007 VW Bug convertible.

They’re advertised as replacement parts for my 2009 VW new beetle “blush” conv’t. They are NOT. They are an inch or two too short (fully extended, using these the trunk will only open 2/3 of the way). And, they require way too much pulling pressure to open the trunk to make them usable. I question the 4 star review for a 2009 vw conv’t. It makes no sense that his trunk strut would work so well while mine had such easily observable & unresolvable problems.
