Review of “Dual High Low Beam Headlight Relay Wiring Harness H4/9003 With High Heat Ceramic Plugs” by Octane Lighting
Since the days are getting shorter and I will soon be coming and going in the dark once again, and since the original equipment on our tired old 2001 Jeep Cherokee were getting very dim, I wanted to replace the lamps with better more modern equipment. Research indicated that the old Jeep’s electrical system was not up to new H4 style lamps and fixtures and that after market wiring harnesses were available. The reviews on this harness were mostly positive and recent reviewers have indicated that they have received Hella branded wiring and relays. So I ordered this one, mostly because of the dual fuses. The one that I received is indeed manufactured by Hella, has twin fuses and Hella branded relays. It was ordered with Hella 003427291 Vision Plus 190x132mm High/Low Beam 12V Halogen Conversion Headlamp (HB2) – I’ll review those elsewhere.
Installation was not complicated. The relays and fuses were located near the PDC and battery so they aren’t hidden or buried out of sight behind a headlight or something. The power cables were attached to the PDC power lug that provides the battery connection to the PDC (the lug holes were drilled out a size so as to fit easily over the PDC’s bolt.) The headlight cables were passed between the fender and battery through a large forward facing hole (through which other factory cables are routed) into the fiberglass head just below and behind the passenger side headlight. The headlights and passenger side front marker lights were removed to allow hand access to facilitate pulling the cables into the tracks. The front radiator grill was removed and the driver’s side cable was routed along the natural track molded into the head piece; I was able to tuck it in under the existing cable and then snake up into the headlight cavity. The old driver’s side headlight plug was removed from the headlight, taped over with electrical tape and tucked into the empty space below and behind the light. The new cable was plugged onto the lamp and the lamp re-installed. The ground lug was passed back into the metal part of the car and attached to a radiator mounting bolt. The input connector was plugged into the old passenger side headlight socket, and the new headlight socket was placed on the back of the passenger side headlight. The ground lug was handled the same way as the driver’s side lug. All of the grills, covers, and doors were re-installed. Total time was less than two hours. There was plenty of cabling and the passenger side cable excess was coiled up and tucked in by the battery.
The new harness functions beautifully and the light output is markedly better even with the old sealed-beams. In fact, the line voltage was high enough that one of the old head lamps failed shortly after installation of the new wiring. It had been in service for a very long time and just couldn’t take it. The sealed beams were replaced with the new fixtures and H4 bulbs when the second one arrived. I also became aware of some issues with the light switch – incandescent lamps are not overly sensitive to voltage drops in the circuit, but relays are. The switch was duly replaced also. Before the upgrade, the headlights were noticeably dimmer than the fog lights. After installation the headlights were brighter than the fogs and the new H4 lamps are brighter still.
In short, coupled with the new headlamps this harness is what it promises. It works, the overall upgrade is a success and light output is on par with our 2015 vehicle.

This came as a Hella brand harness and looks to be made from quality components. I have yet to test it in the dark but the lights look really bright and the whole idea is to get more amperage and higher voltage to the LED headlights that I just installed and hopefully avoid that flicker problem everyone talks about with LEDs. I didn’t see any flickering when I was testing them. The one thing I read about on someone else’s review was about the high and low being wired backwards with this harness. Mine is like that so beware! I’ll have to take it back apart later and swap the low and high power wires after I give it a proper testing.

I purchased this harness for a 99 Jeep Cherokee. Install was a breeze. Everything seems to be good quality. Relays are very nice. The length of the harness was nice, a bit more then I needed but my Jeep is smaller. Ground wires were of decent length as well. No issues what so ever. Been 5 months or so. Freezing temps and now 80-90 weather. My lights are bright and my highbeams are even brighter. Very happy with this harness. Well worth the price.

UPDATE:
Installed on 1986 Toyota 4Runner in minutes and LED headlights now work like they’re supposed to!
Two wires go to the battery, one wire is grounded from each bulb, and the rest of the harness goes between each bulb and the vehicle’s bulb harness. This kit includes two four pin relays with mounting hardware, two 30 amp inline fuses, and two H4 pigtails. All wiring looks like 14AWG and is wrapped in heat shrink and plastic wire loom. This is an awesome kit.
Original:
I was pleasantly surprised to open the bubble mailer envelope and pull out a Hella H4 wire harness that included two high quality four pin relays with heavy duty mounting hardware and two high quality online fuses!
I plan to install this on my 1986 Toyota 4Runner DLX. These older Toyotas utilize a switched ground, which complicates things a bit. I recently upgraded from one LED sealed beam set to another and my old relay setup was not compatible with the new LED sealed beams. Disabilities limit my physical capabilities and I thought this would be the easiest solution to remedy my inoperable high beam problem. Fingers crossed!
For now, I’ll happily recommend this kit to anyone simply wanting to enhance the lumen output on their halogen bulb headlights. I’ll be sure to post an update after installation is complete.

Very easy install, on all my older vehicles with ho halogen bulbs. Good 14 ga wiring, I recommend dialectic grease on the bulb and relay pigtails.

So I purchased this harness for my yj to solve a few headlight problems. The harness is cheap , easy to tell after removing from packaging. It’s got tags all over stating that it’s been thoroughly tested which was absolute crap because mine didn’t work right off the bat. I tried to contact the company and was only ignored. A cheap test light and 30 minutes later I found their “highly tested” equipment had a crimped connection where the wire DIDNT HAVE THE INSULATION STRIPPED OFF !!!!!!!!!!! tested my ass and was still ignored by the company when I tried to contact them about their incompetence. Don’t buy there are better products out there just spend the little extra.
