Purchased to replace OEM part so I cannot compare to other after market parts. I purchased Dorman because I hoped the part lived up to their marketing information.
Firstly, it was 24 hours late being delivered, unclear whose fault that was but car was been out of action for another 24 hours.
The part looks identical in physical size to the original, quality seems OK but after installing it the door does not shut without a hard push, and closes tighter which seems to cause the panel line to be slightly off. The door around the lock is pulled further in leaving a slight indentation when running hand along panels. The top of the door (window trim) seems to have popped up a small amount. So it’s ok but something seems slightly out of alignment, possibly the 3 fixing holes.
Also my photo is of the faulty OEM part (22 years old). The Dorman part has the two pieces marked red for the exterior handle cable reversed, which does make for easier installation of the exterior handle cable which is a bonus when working ‘blind’ inside the door.

Works like New….
I must say… the installation was a bit of a challenge

Easier than I thought it would be, fit perfectly albeit with a bit of force to get it rotated past the window regulator bar.

This unit was not made exactly like the original BMW, but after some modification to accommodate the original pull length of the outer door handle unit that has worn over 18 years, it worked pretty well. It did fix my electric lock issue and the door now opens much easier. Be prepared for 2+ hours of fun and games getting the window regulator to not fall apart while trying to get the window back in. Small piece of tape could have helped…

This item works great solved my problem. Fixed broken actuator. Door wouldn’t open at all from inside or out. Installation takes a little time but worth it. Watch YouTube videos for instructions.

Having a BMW with a failed door latch is a nightmare! The pain of getting the failed part out will want you to never buy another BMW! Well I have done this more than once on this particular BMW model. Had to break the window one time because the drivers side door key mechanism broke and the passenger, which has no door keyhole, had a busted door latch! Aargh! After installing the new latch it appears to be working. Don’t know how long it will last but hoping it will last long enough to when I decide to get rid of the car.
