Bought this to replace the trunk hatch on a 2012 civic. Currently working fine but will update soon.

I do not recommend. It came defective.

The cable length is slightly short, even thou I was able to fit it. The wire ends are different than OEM so therfore only the pull mechanism works and it now opens both the trunk and gas door at the same time when used.

the wire for the trunk is too short on mine, and now the trunk won’t close. I wonder if there is a way to add slack to these?

If you install this replacement cable from the trunk forward, insuring you follow the path of the old one and place it in the clip at the rear door and under the tray below the driver seat the front lines up perfectly. You have to be mindful of which of the 3 clip rings your original trunk cable mounted to up at the lever. Be sure to put the new one into the same groove. Mine was in the center groove of the 3.
Do the same for the rear, insuring you both push the fuel door cable all the way into place and push down the retaining tab behind the fill neck collar. If you follow the exact path (yes, wrapping around the harness wires as the original one does) the cable will also reach, with the same amount of slack as the original.
The 2 star review comes from the fact that the mechanism at the back that controls which door is actuated is slightly faulty. You have to do some stretching with the lever up front without the plastic cover in the way to get it moving properly in the back. Even then, if you pull up for the trunk, you have to push down on the lever slightly to relieve the tension or the trunk wont latch down. If you push open the fuel door, you have to be sure you pull up slightly on the lever to put the pressure back onto the spring so that the fuel door will latch closed properly. It was very stressful, but is currently functioning with a bit of extra steps.
