I thought like other reviewers did, that the switches are defective, but I now understand the issue. This is essentially a smart switch with an internal resistor. Simply providing a ground on the harness will not open the trunk. The onboard computer that releases the trunk is “looking” for a certain voltage drop, which on the fiat 500 is achieved through a 1.5 K ohm internal resistance build into the switch. This switch will work on some cars but not others based on what internal resistance is needed. I can’t tell you right now what the internal resistance of this switch is as I “repaired” it, making it a straight NO switch. I am now having to solder a resistor in place to make it work in the car. Shortening the harness directly with a 1.5 kohm resistor will open the trunk. Shortening it with a wire will not.

This is the second unit I purchased that would not work. After tearing it apart to figure out the issue, the brown wire has no connectivity, so NO power can go through the unit. SECOND ONE – SAME ISSUE.

Used this +1 2.2k ohms resistor and it works on my fiat 500. No need to spend $200 on the entire part. Hopefully it lasts longer than the original garbage.

Fit well. But the switch is intermittent. But it does work about 60 % of the time. The remote works 100%.

Installed this on a 2012 Challenger SRT8 since the rubber on the OEM model was deteriorating and sticking to my fingers whenever I opened the trunk. This was a perfect fit even matching the OEM wire colors. with super long lead wires. THIS IS NOT A PLUG AND PLAY REPLACEMENT. Requires cutting the OEM release switch cables and splicing or using connectors to use this product. Super easy to do taking about 20 minutes to take apart the tail light and replace. Great replacement product from Dorman.

Worked perfectly for my Fiat 500 but had to put 2 resistors in parallel so that it gives the correct reading.
