After installing this unit. I tested the anti pinch feature. It did not work. After a few days of using it. The anti pinch function started to operate normal as designed to my surprise. We will keep a close eye on it behavior. The anti pinch function started to work after a few days and usage.

I watched the video from Dorman and decided to spend extra compared to other brands since this brand seems to be well tested. I installed it today, so time will tell about the reliability.
It took a couple hours to install, at least a half hour of which was trying to figure out how to remove the old one. The old one failed in the up position, so it was hard to remove. I had to reach up into a blind spot to detach the old one from the window, then with the window taped up I could remove the old regulator.

Works like it should was easy to install and so far no problems. Went right in my 2011 Subaru Outback. You will want to put tape “I used the blue painters masking tape” over the top of the door to the glass . do this as soon as you release the clamps that hold the window in the opener and make sure the window is aligned properly in the window slides/upper door tracks front and rear on the door itself.

Getting the old, broken one out was a bit of a challenge, but installing the new one went well. Runs smoothly and now my daughter can go through the drive through at Taco Bell again.

Of course, first verify that the switch is not the culprit before purchasing. Managing the door panel removal is not difficult, and would recommend taking a couple pics after removal since there are about a half dozen electrical connections plus door lock and latch cables to disconnect. Not difficult at all if you keep track of them.
Hardest part in my case was removal of the existing motor and regulator (track) since the unit failed with the window in the upright position, and thus cannot be removed in this position. Turned out to be an aftermarket unit (car purchased used) which did not have screws on the motor plate so the inner workings could not be accessed to lower the window. But a decent pair of snips to cut the top cable portion did the job easily, and frankly might be easier than fiddling with the existing motor. Once removed, installation was a breeze. But having a couple reference pics made reconnecting everything that much easier.

Thankfully, unlike most vendors Dorman had an ACTUAL photo of the connector on the part. This allowed me to confirm that our car came equipped with the “Anti-pinch” feature. Went in with no issues and connected right up. Hardest part of this job is working around the vapor/noise liner attached to the framework of the door itself, otherwise there are 2 bolts that connect the glass to the regulator and another 7 nuts that hold the regulator to the frame of the door.

It started malfunctioning at temperatures below about 45F after only a year and a half. I inquired about a warrany and Amazon sent me straight to the manufacturer Dorman. They referred me to a 3rd party service that did in fact process my warranty, so in the end they do stand behind their product.

Clearly, this Dorman unit is superior to most of the cheaper “Made in China” rigs floating around out there (already replaced the 1st “cheapie” I bought 16 months ago!). More costly this time, to be sure, but the Dorman is made in Taiwan (vice Mainland China) & features better materials and quieter operation, plus was delivered in ONE day and is warranted for life (vice the China-man backing of only 1-yr), and STILL represents a far cheaper option than the OEM Subaru part. Happy to have the Subaru’s window working again!!
