This was my first attempt replacing the window motor and regulator and I wanted a quality product that would hopefully last for at least 10 years. After doing research, I felt pretty secure purchasing Dorman. Removing the old motor. regulator and glass was the most difficult part. The installation was relatively simply and I used 1-inch long, 1/4″ hex bolts to secure the motor, regulator and glass (for one of the motor connections, I used a 3/4-inch long 1/4″ hex bolt due to clearance issues and reversed the direction). After completion, the motor moved a bit slow at first, but after a day or so, it operated much faster. I would recommend Dorman if you have the budget.

Installed in 2010 Ford Crown Victoria. After 8 months of use, this part is still working well. It installed exactly like an OEM part that I installed in the same vehicle. Available at significantly cheaper cost than the OEM part. I have no complaints about this part.

The window regulator and motor fit like oem. I just installed it today so I can’t speak to longevity. I installed this in my 2011 Crown Vic. The instructions in the box were not very helpful, so as stated in other reviews, youtube is your friend. The motor and regulator came with 2 large rivets in the box. I happen to have a large rivet tool from HF so I used rivets instead of bolts. There are 3 rivets needed to attach the window motor and 2 to attach the window guide and 2 more to attach the window, so buy more if you plan to use rivets. Bolts would make the job much faster if the part needs to be replaced again.
I pulled out the window and quarter window like they show online and that added significant time to the job. If you can get it done by dropping the window to the bottom of the door and then getting it back in the tracks from below, the job will be much quicker.

Dorman’s instruction said to push the glass all the way to the top and remove the old window regulator. That’s not possible because the top of the assembly will not tilt back enough for removal with the glass in place. All the youtube videos said to basically remove the whole rear window guide and pull the glass out toward the outside of the car… Which is fine if you are charging by the hours. A MUCH simpler way is to remove the inside rubber molding; remove ONLY the 11mm bolt holding the rear-most window guide; the drop the window down and gently pulls it out of the guide as the glass is lowered. Then wiggle the glass up and out toward the INSIDE of the door. Assembly is in reverse.
The Dorman window regulator I received came with all hardware, but consider putting a drop of blue loctite on the bolts to keep them from working loose. You will have to remove the door latch assembly from the door to get enough room to R&R the window regulator, so make sure you have 3 10mm bolts to replace the 3 rivets holding the door latch assembly to the door.

Good product just go slow on the top screws when attaching your old nuts. They screws will easily heat up and snap off.

Dorman impressed me yet again. First product I bought of theirs was the replacement lift-gate handle for a 1998-2003 Toyota Sienna and that prompted me to check their site to see if they had a solution to one of the common problems with Ford Crown Vic’s and their upscale cousins, the Mercury Grand Marquis.
I found a good installation how-to at YouTube (go to youtube-dot-com-slash-watch-slash-Ivnt6Ifj06A) and followed their instructions for the most part. They recommend using a punch to remove the center of the rivets and then a 3/8″ drill bit to drill out the rivet heads. I recommend a 1/4″ bit because that is the width of the rivet shaft and will help you “punch” through in one pass. The other timesaver is to drop the window all the way down and against the outer part of the door. That will avoid you having to move the quarter window out of the way and pulling the window out completely. Getting the window back on the track once you replace the regulator will require some gentle force but it will save some steps and time in the process.
My car is 13 years old, so I’ll likely be back for more. The same folks that posted the video linked also posted a separate how-to for the front regulator. Easy to install and appears to be very high quality.
I also recommend getting the regulators with the motor since you might find a rusty motor when you remove the old one. Better to replace both and not have to go back in later. The new motor is consistently powerful and delivers even travel all the way. The old motors start fast, get slow in the middle (about 2/3 of the travel), then finish fast. The new one is fast all the way through. In my humble opinion, the cost savings in reusing the old motor isn’t worth it. Plus you will get the dorman warranty on both the motor and regulator.

Driver’s side rear passenger window stopped working in 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis. You could move the window by hand. Ordered this part which comes with most necessary hardware except the Window attaching Nuts which The bolts provided are 10 mm. I happened to look in my hardware bin and found 2 locking nuts which did the trick. I definitely used YouTube for procedure. You will have to punch out Rivets and drill them out but as stated before but replacement part has provisions with threads in motor mount and the track to not have to get rivets/rivet installer. I did place glue on bolt threads to keep vibrations from loosening fasteners. Overall satisfied with part for a cheap $60 bucks vs $300 to $400 dollar repair especially with the long lines to get your car repaired. If you can follow directions and got 3 hours and a 6 Pack of beer you to can fix your car. Motor is slow Going up, much faster going down. But what do you expect at this price.
