I was going to do a spray in bed liner on my 05 Silverado and when I went to take my tailgate off, I seen one of my cables had rust popping out of the heat shrink and decided to replace them. These new ones are better quality than the original I think because the heat shrink covers more, I think they’ll last longer, perfect replacement as you can tell which ones are the older ones in my picture.

Nice and strong. They work. Good price.

Worked as advertised to replace my broken tail gate cable on my old 1999 GMC sierra 1500. Well built, and looks like OEM products. The cable is covered in a thicker heat shrink, and has more heat shrink covering the connections from cable to lugs. No loose cable wires to poke yourself on etc..

I replaced the tailgate cables on a 2004 silverado soon purchased 2 as they part not is not left or right. One cable is slightly longer than the other. However my 2014 silverados’ GM factory parts, one is slightly longer as well. You can loop the cable over the lock striker for the tailgate and it will be held open slightly. It’s for loading, adjusting the rearview camera to see the trailer hitch better. Of course the truck doesn’t have that but it’s handy to leave the tailgate cracked open occasionally. so no big deal to me.
Anyway.. if the gate closes on the straps. Push IN on the eyelet end that bolts to the tail gate. With a little oomph, it bends easily. If you close the cable in the tailgate the coating on the cable can be damaged. No good.
It’s a wing Wang Dorman part but it’s not rusty and ready to break like the old GM cables.

Theses are good, fit proper and seem strong. I purchased some Chinese cables before these. The length was off and they broke fairly quickly. Don’t go cheap on tailgate cables, get the Dorman!

What can I say, they take 5 minutes to install and help the tailgate work good as new. They unclip very easy from the truck bed as well, which helps if you need to remove the tailgate.
The one con that I have with the cables is that they are not made from any rust resistant material as far as I can tell. Just a normal steel cable with ends crimped on, and coated with a plastic for protection. I’m on my third set now as they last 2 or three years and then one day you look and realize that the cabling on one side has rusted and broken. In all fairness, the jacket has worn through in those areas, but the cable wouldn’t have rusted if made with a slightly better quality material. (though at a higher price point) Pick your poison.

Fits and works just fine.

Fit just like OEM. I replace my straps every few years and you should too since you can’t see the corrosion thru the plastic jacket. I remember when GM recalled trucks for corroding straps and figured its safer to keep on changing them as a maintenance item. Be safe and change yours. Cheap insurance.
