Was a great replacement starter for my 88 evinrude 115hp , but was a little concerned the first 3-4 times I cranked it , when the teeth meshed with the flywheel it was loud and threw a few sparks like it was misaligned and missing for a split second but this issue worked itself out after a few starts, on closer inspection of the teethe it just looks like the way the metal was cast , the teeth have just a minute amount of excess metal on them around some of the edges ( maybe not ground down enough during manufacturing ) and it was kind of catching but after a few cracks it all smoothed out.
Edit — this starter died 3 months after purchase ( insides got super rusty some how and shorted out , burning up my cables) . I replaced with the same one , that one lasted about a year but is already acting up , I would recommend trying to find some way to weather proof it , as its covered with corrosion on the outside and its never gotten wet so its very odd . Bought a different brand will update on how that one does when it arrives

this starter worked for about 25 starts after a year it totally crapped out. i replaced this new useless starter with a used original american made starter ( 30 years old). I plan to have my original starter re -built..Anybody needing a starter will be farbetter off buying a used omc or prestolite starter.

We had to replace starter on our pontoon boat we’d hsd for 20 years. The first one we ordered would not engage with fly wheel so we requested and received prompt response to return and paper work needed to ship back. A replacement for a 20 year old boat we knew would be a rebuilt part and once in a while you get a bad one. I ordered replacement and received within 2 or 3 days. That one worked great. Was very satisfied with product as well as return procedure.
