Took approximately an hour to install both sides and I have camber bolts on my 09′ Patriot which meant a little extra messing around. When they say that no special tools are needed, they mean it. They do assume you have a metric socket set, hammer, etc… but you probably wouldnt be looking at this kit if you didn’t have those things in your garage. These struts eliminated a nasty noise I was getting from a set of Monroe struts that went bad after 3,000 miles. Longevity is still the question, since I installed them 2 days ago. If I have a problem with them I will update my review accordingly. So far they drive better and sound better than the Monroe’s that were supposed to be an “upgrade” from stock.

This part doesn’t fit my vehicle and I’ve requested a refund . The seller has been following up with me on the return process thoroughly .

I ordered Detroit Axle struts for a 2007 Dodge Caliber. I’ve used Detroit Axle parts often, from wheel bearings to shocks and they have always fit and lasted. I’ll continue to use their parts, but this time things did not work. The struts I purchased did not fit. There was two main issues. First, they were to long, if you measure from the top of the strut tower to the center of the top bolt they were 1 inch longer than their eventual replacements. This made the car sit way high in front. Like silly high. You might not think 1 inch would make a huge difference but it did. So there’s hope for all of us. Second, and the worst thing, the springs rubbed the inner fender, badly. Turns out the springs were considerably fatter than than the replacements so at every turn and bump they rubbed terribly. I couldn’t figure out what was making so much noise so a few searches and online forums later I ended up purchasing replacement Monroe struts locally. I actually brought the D. Axle strut into the store to compare and it looked to us like the spring was incorrectly installed upside down at the factory especially because the replacement Monroe springs were clearly marked “top”. So I bought the Monroe’s and switched them out. Car drives perfect now, no clangs and bangs and horrible rubbing sounds now. I had an alignment done and I have to say the car drives great now. With Monroe struts in the front and Detroit Axle shocks in back. I tried returning these, but I didn’t have the box, and I had installed and used them. Even still, Detroit Axle refunded me $10 of a $150 purchase. My wife and I had a good laugh, because it only cost us $140 to drive 2 miles on those struts. I’ll still use Detroit Axle, but I’ll be cautious to look over the specs before installing, and always keep the box.

Hard to tell if the build quality is inferior to the OEM, as some reviews state. I did notice that the ride height is noticeably higher than my old sagging struts, which is a good thing. Matter of fact, I bought a new rear strut set because the bulldog stance was so obvious (went with TRQ brand). After doing that job, the Jeep now sits correctly.
Install for the most part is easy and straightforward. Watching some YouTube vids will eliminate some surprises. If you live in the rust belt, spraying all of the bolts with penetrating oil ahead of time will help a lot. I recommend replacing the sway bar end links while you are doing the struts. They are 20 bucks and probably worn out anyways. Mine were so heavily corroded that the hex center was rusted making it impossible to remove, so I cut it off with a sawsall and then vicegripped the shaft while I strong-armed the nut off. PITA but I knew this would be the case, so I bought the end links at the same time as the struts. Unlike the rear struts, the fronts have a left and right, so pay attention to the position of the brake line and end links and you’ll be fine. Be sure to get a front end alignment after!

Installed just over a month ago, no sag and definitely stiffer and in better shape than the factory ones they replaced. I recommend following installation instructions on YouTube as I tried to do it without and got myself into a jam. There is a particular order and certain things that will help you in installation. Highly recommend so far and a fraction of the price from most parts stores. I have used Detroit axle on several vehicles of mine with few issues so don’t let the price scare you off.
