I am not a mechanic, but this is my story. I had a check engine light (CEL) go on. Toyota said it was a P0420 ‘bank I catalyst system efficiency was below threshold for a predetermined period of time’. They quoted $2,263.74 to repair. The CEL went on and off for a period of months. I confirmed the code at an Autozone (which if you didn’t know, checks engine light warnings for free). I found this product on Amazon and bought it with the thought that I had nothing to loose. After replacing, I drove the car for a week afterward with no light on. I am writing this review after just passing emissions!
My tips for doing this are as follows:
– watch a Youtube video to find the location of this sensor. (it is right under the car after the exhaust pipe begins to run horizontal)
– soak the connection with penetrating oil and let sit for at least 30mins, better if exhaust is hot when applied.
– remove the plug using a 7/8 wrench
– pull back the carpet from the front passenger footwell beginning in the uppper left hand corner, peeling along the center console and across the back firewall until the plug connection is visualized on the side of the ‘hump’ in the middle of the car under the radio, still on the passenger side.
– the wiring connection is in a clip retainer and slides out when pulled towards the rear of the car. Disconnect and feed wire through the floor of the car. Just push the rubber seal out that secures the wire.
– install the new plug using the ring provided with the kit and apply the anti-seize compound to the threads and not in the holes in the sensor.
– the seal that came with the kit did not seat in the floor like the original for me, so I cut the old one off and reused it as well as the metal wire retaining clip that was on the original.
– plug into the center console connection and secure back in the retaining bracket. Replace the carpet.
– drive and periodically think about what to do with the remaining money you saved!

After some a-hole cut the catalytic converter out of my 2007 Toyota Prius, I needed a new 02 sensor. I resisted the temptation to buy an aftermarket 02 sensor for $35 less. This Denso 02 sensor fit perfectly and is working great. Unlike the cheap Chinese 02 sensor, I have no concern that I’ll have to replace it again in another few months.
One callout is that the 02 sensor on a 2nd generation Prius plugs into the car’s computer via a hole in the floor in the upper-left corner of the front passenger footwell. To access it, you need to remove the passenger floormat, then pull up the carpeting in the upper-left corner of the passenger footwell. I was able to do this without removing any of the plastic trim pieces (although one of the carpet retention clips on the inside broke/pulled out, but no worries). I was able to press/wedge the carpet back under the plastic trim and the carpet looks good as news and everything is as solid as before, despite the one missing carpet pin.

This was very easy to install in our new catalytic converter after our previous one was stolen. It comes with anti-seize grease to install which was great as well. Everything fit just like you would expect and our check engine light went off after one longer drive and has stayed off for the past week thus far. Very pleased with the quality.

Bought a 2008 Prius with an after market O2 sensor
It kept throwing P0420 error codes every 60 miles
After trying cleaning it, added spark plug spacer, cata clean, and many cleaners, I finally installed this oem
Denso 02 sensor. Well packaged. Sealed. Grease pack wasn’t included but It took care of the dreaded P0420 code. 800 miles & a month later the code never returned. The MPG also improved a little.

2009 Toyota Prius 200K miles and “P0420” error code SOLUTION.
After receiving a NEW DOSKJOK O2 sensor that was BAD upon arrival (Open LEAN) and many error codes later and then trying a different brand my fav mechanic told me only use DENSO. I had read this on Toyota websites and now i am SOLD. ONLY DENSO as it saved me ($700 x 2) plus a new CAT ($1000+)
Even though DENSO is about $20 more than the cheapest, they are well worth every penny! 5 hours labor again at $140/hr… DENSO the First time~!
My 3 Toyota’s will ONLY be getting DENSO sensors and parts in the future. Thank You for a GREAT product from and Avid Researcher and DIY Guy!

The auto parts store had the same exact one but about $30 more expensive than the one on Amazon. As soon as the new sensor was installed I noticed a different on my mpg. About 60 extra miles on every fill up. 2005 toyota prius.

Prius 08 CAT was stolen after replaced this 02 sensor, i cleared the check light engine can drive for a day then the check light engine came back again!!!.

These were great on over 100 customers’ gen 2 prii for the last 8 years. These NEW ones don’t work! They “look” the same but they are not! The “new” ones come with a plastic cover over the sensor that supplies the anti-size. The “old” ones DID NOT have a plastic cap and a separate anti-seize bottle. Those were fantastic and not a single one ever failed. These new ones simply DO NOT work and half are DOA on arrival. Literally 2 seconds and CEL is on! The monitors will not set with the other half. We have tried over 20 different ones. OEM? Horrible!
Are they made elsewhere? Quality control issue? What on earth happened? Denso…what is going on??!!!!!!!!

My cat got stolen and got cheap replacement along with cheap O2 sensor. You can’t skimp on the sensor. This one works on 2004 Prius.
