Fuel level stopped resistor on the sender stopped working the day after the return date closed. Now I have to go buy another unit to get the gas gauage to work.

Before you install this pump in a Ford with returnless style fuel system look at the underside of the fuel tank hat on the new pump to see if the black wire is riveted to the new fuel tank hat with a brass spacer grounding it instead of a nylon insulated one, if so DO NOT INSTALL the pump or it will be grounded out and run continuously at 100% in your 99-04 mustang holding 125lbs of fuel pressure on the fuel rails instead of 30-75lbs and possibly damage your fuel rail pressure sensor and your car will throw the code P1237 and you will have to drop your fuel tank and remove the new pump to send back. I had to rewire the new pump to my old fuel tank hat which required me dropping my fuel tank a second time besides me working a week diagnosing the problem of the new fuel pump being wired wrong from the factory. The new pump CANNOT be grounded to your fuel tank because the power to operate the fuel pump in a Ford returnless style fuel system works off of a pulse ground signal from your fuel pump driver module which tells the pump how hard to work. The actual pump was the correct one just wired wrong and everything worked fine after rewiring it but this shouldn’t have happened. I’ve added 2 photos, the photo with the pump & tank hat in the picture is how it should be wired to the underside of the fuel tank hat and the picture of just the fuel tank hat shows the brass spacer grounding out the fuel pump ground wire to the hat and how it CANNOT BE Wired. If all 4 wires on the underside of the fuel tank hat aren’t insulated from each other as well as the fuel tank hat itself DO NOT INSTALL or you will just have to remove it and the extreme high fuel pressure can damage your fuel rail pressure sensor. It’s easier just to send it straight back. I’ve worked on cars for 45yrs but I didn’t catch the new pump being wired wrong before I installed it in my own 2000 mustang GT. I contacted the seller and they offered a replacement but when I explained what was wrong they didn’t understand and just said the pump should fit my car.

Like the title says, the sending unit didn’t work. It only went from 1/4 tank to 3/4 tank. Frustrating after the work I put in. The pressure check valve went out in the first week causing hard starts.
