I sealed all the seams and where the bolts go through the back cover with RTV sealant as I’ve replaced the starter several times before and water still got into it and rusted it solid.
Also make sure the supplied gasket is used where it seals to the case and apply a thin layer of RTV to both sides of this as well. Also make sure your pull start recoil cover is sealed well with a gasket and RTV both sides.
What kills these starters is water intrusion. Water is your enemy.

I bought 2 of these for my bikes. One was for a 2005 Polaris TrailBlazer 250cc and the other was for a 1995 Polaris Big Boss 6×6 400cc. They fit perfect and haven’t had any problems with it. I will keep you guys posted if anything.

Got this to replace a slow starter in a Polaris Trail Boss. Bolted right up with No problems. I did use my old starter drive.
I do have a problem with the gasket. It’s very thin. I used some form-A-gasket #2 to make sure it sealed. This starter is on the bottom side of the engine so any stream fording could cause water to get into the starter.
I also did a test to see amperage draw between this and the old one. This one draws10 amps more. But the old one ran very slowely. Would not even start the ATV. This one turns the engine over and starts it right up. Time will tell how it will last.
Update 6/18/20 when to start the quad and now the starter is not working correctly. The starter engages, turns the engine over, but soon as the engine gets to the compression stroke, the starter disengages and just spins till I let the starter button go.
But starts right up using the recoil. Reduced to 4 stars

Have installed quite a few small engine starters in the past, and you can usually judge the quality of the motor by the sound it makes when it’s turning over the engine. Was pretty impressed by the quiet and smooth engagement of this unit. Time will tell, but I’m hopeful this will be a good performing part. Also was nice to see the test data sheet which makes me think the factory is actually doing real QC checks on their parts.

I bought this for my 02 scrambler. I installed it and worked great but when I took it out for a full day of riding it stopped working. This is the second starter in a single year. I am hoping this is a fluke and will give this product one last chance. Out of all the cheap starters this is the only one with a full one year warranty. If this doesn’t work I’d soon rather pay the 300 bucks for oem that will hold up.

Perfect match for factory starter on 1996 Polaris Trailboss 250. Starter works and have no problems after several months of use. FYI….made in China, but had zero luck finding one built elsewhere.
