Put on snowmobile in summer. Seems to work great, only been out for 1 ride on sled so far this winter.

After 3 rides the bendix fails to retract consistently. This causes the starter gear to randomly engage with the flywheel which results in a loud chattering and wear to the flywheel. I was an ASE master certified technician until changing careers so the install is not the issue.
The starter was purchased and fulfilled via Amazon. I also purchased the Asurion warranty. Thankfully I did this because DB Electrical would not warranty the item even though it was made by them and well within the one year manufacturers warranty because I did not purchase it from them (was not fulfilled by DB Electrical). When speaking to DB Electrical they indicated that the item would not be warrantied because of the fulfillment by Amazon and because when they sold these particular starters to Amazon they (Amazon) were given some kind of deal.
Seems shady to me. Is it your product or not? Is your name on it? Did your build it? If it is then your warranty should cover it plain and simple.

These starters are not OEM replacements and are manufactured in poor quality. Mine only worked for one season before the pinion gear would not retract after starting. This can cause damage to the ring gear on your drive clutch and makes a lot of noise! Next time I’ll spend a bit more and buy a quality replacement starter.
