I purchased this alternator for a 1998 Ford Explorer with the 4.0 “OHV” V6. Stock alternator puts out 95 amps, this alternator is an upgrade to 135. It looks to be a very well built alternator. I had it installed in no time. It works great and keeps my Explorers alternator gauge right in the middle at all times. If i experience a problem I will come back here to update this review.
Take note that this does NOT fit the 4.0 “SOHC” V6, before ordering make sure to check your engine bay to avoid the common assumption by Ford vehicle owners that Ford only made “one” 4.0 V6.

This alternator went on my 94 Ford Explorer it’s the second one I’ve bought for it. The 1st one lasted over 6 years. I took the first alternator apart and the brushes were shot so I bought a set of replacement brushes to fix it. Now I have a working back up alternator. This vehicle gets me to work in the bad weather. The cheapest I could find a 130amp Alt. at the local AA auto parts was $189.00

This alternator was a perfect match for my 5.8 on my F350. Had the right pulley offset everything. Everything plugged in and hooked up like the original did. Super happy to go from 95 amps to a 130 amps. My truck didn’t come with the topackage so I’ve always had problems with my trailer brakes on my trucking proper amperage from my RV now everything works on my travel trailer My truck didn’t come with the towpackage. so I’ve always had problems with my trailer brakes on my trucking improper amperage from my RV plug now everything works on my travel trailer on it

This Alternator was an exact match for the old one. It went on very easily, and worked perfectly out of the box. Good high output and no issues at all.

…it worked ok to start with but had low voltage after about 6mos but I am retired partly disabled & drive very, very, VERY, little compared to most I put less than 2K miles a yr on two(2) vehicles so it sat unused often…saved a considerable bit of $$$ from parts stores prices…So I thought, last one lasted over 10yrs this one lasted about 1yr…considering labor, downtime, hassle/aggravation, being left stranded, the $$$ savings is NOT such a good idea NOW…believe I’ll pay the premium price instead of this cheap chinee BS!!!… DO NOT RECOMMEND & WILL NOT BUY AGAIN!!!…good day…

Local auto parts stores wanted at least twice the cost I paid on Amazon for an alternator for my 2000 Ford F-150. This alternator is an exact replacement for the factory unit and took only about 30 minutes to replace, including replacing the serpentine belt, which I bought locally at a better price than Amazon. The alternator has worked perfectly since installing two weeks ago. I’ll adjust the rating and review if problems arise.

I purchased this for my 1997 Ford Ranger 4.0L XLT V6. The 130-amp high output *new* model was only four dollars more than the stock 95-amp remanufactured version, so I purchased the high output version for some potential future towing and camping implements. Plus, a high output model online was less than half the cost of a remanufactured high output model available locally.
Pros:
– Came packaged reasonably well for a big chunk of metal. The two bottom mounting lugs had ripped through the box, but the rest was in good shape.
– Configuration/shape is an exact match to the original 21-year-old alternator I replaced.
– Includes a new nut for the positive cable stud.
– The 6-groove pulley is an exact match to OEM.
– The unit output 14.4 volts at the battery upon checkout.
Cons:
– The 3 mounting holes are just slightly misaligned, so installation alignment was a bit of a pain and the bolts went in tighter than they otherwise should have.
– The new pulley sits out 1 or 2 mm farther than the original pulley, so the belt strikes the next downstream idler pulley in a slightly different spot and is causing some squeaking until it wears in.
DB-Electrical customer service was fantastic and kind. I thought the first alternator they sent me had bad bearings because it was vibrating and making noise. The seller sent me a second alternator for free. It turns out it was my fault: I had a worn idler pulley and a worn belt tensioner. I’ll work with the company to pay for the second alternator and return the first one to them.
A Generally Happy Amazon Customer –
Been on my vehicle almost a year now, still working great. Easy 15 minute install (MAKE SURE YOU DISCONNECT BATTERY BEFORE DISASSEMBLY), all bolt holes lined up perfectly. Waaayyyy less expensive than the big box auto parts stores. Mechanic 30+ years.

The description was a bit vague regarding fitment on a 1994 Explorer, but Amazon said it fit, and another reviewer said it fit. Sure enough, I was quite pleased to see that it was a perfect fit. With the increased amperage of 130, it’s a definite upgrade from my OEM 90 amp alternator.
Great buy, too. The parts stores around here wanted $250-300 for an alternator with the same specs. If you’re not in a hurry and can wait a couple of days, this is a great buy.
