Starter went out on our 98 TDI Bug so we ordered this unit. Showed up in about 5 days, packaged well and included the test sheet. After installation the car fired right up. Starter was strong and works like a charm and I saved a lot of money vs local parts store.

I had long cranks and unhealthy sounding starts. The car often started on less that a full cylinder count before smoothing out. This part was a direct drop in with less than 15 min work using maybe 2 tools. Car now starts as soon as the key is turned in warm weather and less than a second on cold mornings. We shall see how long it lasts but it is a heck of a deal at this price.

Bought this on the price, had purchased an other DB starter for my truck and it worked.
This replaced a rebuilt national brand from the scumbags down the street..three years of disappointing performance. Right from the start, this Car Location starter was weak.
Cranking took at least 3 seconds, if it caught. And in the last three weeks, it would take multiple times to start..the pinion would miss the ring gear with only the motor turning.
Fast forward to yesterday morning when this starter got installed. Half a second and the engine is running. Like brand new.
Now this is only one day after. Dozen perfect starts. Time will tell.
The only thing of concern is the lack of country of origin.

Bolt in and worked, but the plug didn’t match, had to cut off the plug and crimp a spade receiver on to make it work.

It fit right in my 03 ALH Jetta Wagon 5 speed. No problems. Hopefully lasts 18 yrs like the first one, but doubt it.

Starter failed after about 10k miles and 3 yrs on my Jetta. VW lasted 18 yrs and 190k, this Chinese one not so much. Buy at your own risk

I gotta say I wasn’t expecting much from this starter. I have a 1981 vw rabbit pickup I swapped a 2004 vw jetta bew tdi engine into and needed a new starter. To my surprise this thing kicks ass, starts instantly every time even on those somewhat cold mornings here in az 40°F its been going strong for a few months now and once the glow plugs are warm she starts up almost instantly. Better than my 2000 2.0 gasser starter on my jetta. Definately worth every penny. All the connections are the correct for a bew tdi engine.
