I recently purchased a 2012 Silverado and if I wanted to get out of the vehicle, I would have to roll down the drivers window and reach the outside handle to open the door. Needless to say, I was feeling trapped and needed a way out.
After taking off the door panel, I found the problem to be that the cable had broke right near the inside handle. I had to remove the door latch but I was able to just pull the latch in far enough so I did not have to disconnect any push rods for the outside handle or lock button as shown in some YouTube videos That made things much easier.
You will need Torx bits for the latch, a needle nose, a 10mm socket, and maybe some trim removal tools and you should have it installed in under an hour. They come in several different lengths so be sure to measure before ordering.
The new cable looked just as good as the old one and it fit perfectly. I now have a good feeling every time I open the door!
