My 2005 Mercury Mountaineer 4.0l SOHC V6 170K Miles started making the dreaded timing chain “rattling” noise for a couple of seconds at startup when cold. After doing some research and watching a few videos, I decided to get these and give it a try. I primed, installed and torqued these as described in the videos. On first startup I thought I was going to have to call Scotty in the engine room and have the core ejected 🙂 . After a few seconds, the noise stopped and has not returned since. Subsequent cold startups have absolutely no noise what so ever. I consider this preventive maintenance and not a fix for a damaged timing chain assembly. I have included a picture of the box indicating these are made in Italy and are not some Chinese knock off.

I bought this because my old tensioner went bad and I installed this and it did good for 2 weeks no rattle on startup but now it rattles bad

This is the tensioner for SOHC engines that goes above the thermostat housing, it’s the same brand Ford uses so basically an OEM part.
