I’ve been buying Cloyes products for over 40 years. Always proven 100% reliable. Strangely, one of the cam sprockets did not fit the camshaft boss/flange. The other one did, perfectly. I didn’t have time to mess around sending stuff back to the supplier via Amazon or whatever, I HAD to get this job done. So I had the sprocket machined out to fit. It was way off! Got to be a quality control problem. I’ll stick with Cloyes but it does make you wonder if the comparable kits selling for HALF the price are just as good in terms of quality and manufacturing tolerances.

Hi all, I purchased this kit and was a bit concerned as the quality and sent photos to Cloyes technicians, they responded that it was most probably there’s ( they have now confirmed it was) the rear cassette and the main front tensioner have failed after 100ks I would not recommend these parts they don’t deserve a star rating but I have no choice I have to give them 1 to submit the comment. Further to this comment the timing chains exploded in two places after 100ks I sent the timing chain remnants to Cloyes as they requested, they inspected the parts and said “the parts failed due to lack of oil” and reimbursed me for the kit, but not the build. I bought a new kit from a local Engine builder in Australia, when it arrived it was identical to the Cloyes kit, I contacted the the supplier and voiced my concerns, they informed me that it came from the same manufacture in Taiwan that Cloyes kit and that to date they haven’t had a complaint. My Machanic reassembled the motor using this kit, the rear timing chain cassette exploded after 8000ks, this new build was carried out using synthetic oil and high pressure oil pump, a steel oil pickup. So you make up your own mind regarding these kits. The Machinic I use has 40 years in the industry it is his own business and oversaw ever aspect of this build.

One of the main reasons I opted for this timing chain kit was the cost. It’s significantly cheaper compared to other brands or buying through traditional auto parts retailers. Despite the lower price, the quality is comparable to more expensive kits. This purchase has given me great value for money, saving me hundreds of dollars without compromising on performance.

Awsome set from Cloyes. The price is good, and the set is nearly complete. They even have an awsome step by step to chain replacement on youtube. My only complaint with this set is that it doesn’t include the needed jackshaft bolts. Both of which can be order from Amazon as well.
I did two back to back timing chain jobs. And so order this twice. The first one, the kit showed up with a broken piece of plastic front the front guide. This seller sent me a new part right away and didn’t even want the other one sent back. I highly recommend this kit from this seller.
2nd kit I orderd was perfect.

Great parts, but did not include bolts that need to be replaced (that can only be torqued down one time this need to be replaced). Didn’t include timing chain cover gasket so had to inventory and order. Would be nice If they had a list of what is and is not Included. Also, the 4.0’s jump time easy. Did the timing set I purchased address the issue so I’m not in the same boat 40k miles from now?

Cloyes has been around longer than most know. It’s direct replacement for the application you are repairing. There are less expensive kits out there, but you truly get what you pay for. Install a cheaper kit and you might be pulling the engine again to replace the right bank chain. Do the job right the first time. It’s worth your time and energy. I used this kit doing a full engine rebuild on a ’08 Ford Explorer 4.0L.
