The first unit failed in less than two months. Amazon was ready to accept the return and send a replacement. I figured the return would be like any other: take it to Kohl’s unboxed and done. Nope. They wanted me to box it up and ship it with their label. This vacuum booster is for a light truck and not small. Don’t know about you, but boxes that size aren’t readily available in my house. Amazon finally relented and said I didn’t need to return the failed unit. The online chat with customer service leading up to that was quite a treat. 🙂 At least removal and installation went more quickly the second time, however the first unit had a sleeve (pictured) installed on the vacuum check valve inlet, probably to make life simpler for Cardone, allowing one check valve to serve more applications. It didn’t make my life simpler. The sleeve slid right off the check valve inlet, remaining deep in the vacuum hose. Not easy to remove, eating up a lot of time, but probably less than going out to get a length of hose, not to mention spending more money on Cardone’s failure. I remember Cardone being a good rebuilder. Installed a lot of their water pumps in the 80s and 90s when I did that sort of thing and never encountered a faulty unit. Not so sure that’s true anymore.

Shorty ratchet and deep 15 mm socket definitely a good recommendation from Michael P. The clip on the linkage to the brake pedal is hard to access above the steering column, but with a good flashlight and the right size screwdriver you can pop it off pretty easily. It usually falls under the gas pedal after it springs off. I took a few extra minutes and painted the wiring harness bracket that bolts to the master cylinder, pretty rusty after 15 years. Make sure and closely inspect your master cylinder for leakage before replacing brake booster.

This brake booster is heavy duty and high quality. Easy transaction and a couple hours labor and the truck was back working as a daily driver.

A reman with no core charge, can’t beat that. Cheaper than all the auto parts stores around here. Comes with a new one way valve and grommet but you’ll want to but a new gasket for the firewall and a new clip for the brake pedal.

After watching Dr. Shocks video on replacing this part on a 95 – 00 GMT 400 this was the part he recommended. It is made by the same company that produced the OEM part for GM.

This part is a bear to replace since mounting bolts on my Chevy are all but inaccessible. To have this
“This product works and looks like new. Backed by a 1-year Amazon Renewed Guarantee.” fail catastrophically within a couple hundred miles is very disappointing. Add to that given I was still well within the one year “ Full refund” period there is no way to return this failed part on my orders site, had to call. After speaking to an Amazon rep I was then told there would be a restocking fee of $25 on this bad part. Wait, this has a full refund warranty for a year. They then wanted to give me some Amazon only credit to make whole. Still hassling with this return. Amazon just honor your “renewed guarantee warranty”. New Napa part works perfectly, no more Amazon purchases for critical auto parts.
