It looked brand new when it came out of box. I installed it, plugged it in, and tried the transfercase shift. It went into 4×4, but would not come out of 4×4. I took it off and manually shifted out of 4×4, and tried it again. it does not function at all.

It worked but I spent 10 minutes trying to get it to fit in. Had to attach it to power and cycle it through positions before it fit in.

4×4 wasn’t working. Changed this and now it was. Unfortunately we had to disassemble the new one and the old on. The triangular shaped slot wasn’t big enough for the post on transmission so it wouldn’t fit. Had to use the whole housing from the old one with the new motor of the new one. A 15 minute job turned into a 2 hour job. Other then that it was good

This motor originally worked when I replaced the original part. It worked flawlessly when installed. But, I didn’t need 4 wheel drive until 3 months later, when I found that the part failed. I couldn’t put the truck into 4 wheel high or low. This 3 month period was beyond the Amazon 30-day return period. I contacted Cardone directly and they refused to provide any support for the item. My local parts stores provide a lifetime warranty for this part, but according to Cardone that is dependent only on the retailer. Ultimately, Cardone refused to provide any direct support and told me to tell Amazon how Cardone intends to deal with their parts.
Amazon provided appropriate support for me, by first giving me a refund on the item even though it was past the 30-day return window, and second by not requiring me to return the part. This second piece allows me to return the defective unit to a local parts store as a core that would otherwise cost me $30.
Way to go Amazon.
Cardone does not support their parts and clearly does not care about their reputation.

Worked great for a 98 ranger XLT automatic 4.0 extended cab 4×4.
This motor has 7 wires in the plug. If your transfer case has an 8th brown wire going to the plug, from the transfer case then you can’t remove the old one without cutting that wire… DON’T.
The 8th wire is for a shift on the fly electric synchro clutch in the transfer case. Not needed if you are stopped and trans in neutral when shifting the TC
Search the web for ” Ford ranger transfer case motor 8 wires ” and you will see that you remove the wire from the plug on the old motor and insert it into the plug on the new one.
The point: works fine with 7 wires but don’t shift in or out of 4wd on the fly if you eliminate that 8th wire

CarDone#48-202 TransferCaseShiftMotor with 8pin7Wire RoundConnector Harness
to replace original TCSM on a 2001.Ford#ExplorerSportTrac \ Built After 2000.0624=Job2
with 4.0L~V6~SOHC~AutoTrans~4WD +BorgWarner#1354 TransferCae (2H~4H~4L=3ShiftPositions)
Approx 2yrs ago replaced TransferCaseControlMod in right kick panel & got 2H~4H~4L working again,
then ~2months ago TransferCase would shift to 4L but not from 4L; could hear ControlMod relays clicking\trying
but TCSM would not turn the TransferCase stem under the drivers floor board. Removed TCSM, leaving wiring connected, had wife shift 4WD so I could watch the TCSM rotate; it rotated 2H~4H~4L and returned 4L~4H~2H while not having to rotate TransferCase, but once remounted to TransferCase, would not operate proper. I fully removed TCSM, then with vice grips rotated TransferCase stem to 2H, so vehicle could drive paved streets.
Drained\flushed\filled TransferCase fluid while I was under there. After reading many online forums and part reviews, decided almost new 4x4ControlMod was still good and original 18yr old ShiftMotor must be bad; likely worn out DC motor brushes.
CarDone#48-202 TransferCaseShiftMotor with 8pin7Wire RoundConnector Harness
is declared incompatible with this vehicle by many Amazon +eBay +other suppliers
but found confirmation from CarDone that it is correct part Refuse to pay outrageous $’s to dealership.
Good price on Amazon so I ordered; it arrived in 2 days free shipping. Installed next morning.
Only install issue was triangle drive socket on new TCSM was very snug compared to old TCSM;
used 3 spare bolts ~1/2inch longer to press new TCSM triangle drive socket with a dab of vaseline onto TransferCase triangle drive stem; delay of a few minutes figuring out a solution. Snugged up TCSM wire harness with heat shrink sleeve + black cable ties. All works proper now! Pro mechanic could do job in less than an hour; this “shade tree” took several times longer.

Just what I needed for my truck

I had been out hunting and couldn’t get my ’01 Sport Trac’s 4WD to disengage. I did some research and found out that since I could still hear a clicking noise coming from the passenger side kick panel, that the problem was probably my t-case shift motor. After removing the existing one and manually shifting to 2WD and reassembling the old motor so that my truck was drivable, I ordered this motor as a replacement. Four bolts and a wiring plug later my 4WD works as good as new. Worth every penny.
