It’s still a little too cold out to be washing my car, but I mixed up a small amount to wash off some pollen. It sudsed up a bit and smelled good and cleaned well. I noticed it can be used for cleaning other things, too, and I think I’m going to use it to clean my bicycle.

I was looking for a car wash soap that wouldn’t make me feel guilty every time I rinsed suds into the driveway, so I got this Gear Hugger Car Wash Soap to try. First off, the eco-friendly formula is a huge plus. Knowing it’s biodegradable and made with natural saponins and eucalyptus gives me peace of mind, especially since I wash my car at home. It smells fresh and clean—nothing overpowering or chemical-heavy, just a subtle eucalyptus scent. In terms of performance, this soap foams up nicely and cuts through dirt and grime without needing a ton of product. I used about 1/4 cup in my pressure washer soap container and had plenty of suds to clean my SUV. It rinses off easily too—no streaks, no residue, and it leaves the surface looking shiny and smooth. Cleans the paint, glass, plastic trim, and even the wheels with zero issues.

Okay, it’s a little on the pricey side, but this Car Wash Soap does a fantastic job, and it’s totally worth it! It lathers up beautifully and leaves my car looking spotless, plus it’s eco-friendly and biodegradable—so much better for the planet. And just a fun thought: you could technically lather this up on your body too, since it’s so gentle and safe (though I wouldn’t recommend it for a full-on bath!). The natural saponins and eucalyptus scent just make it that much better. Clean car, clean conscience!

I got this Gear Hugger Car Wash Soap (16 oz, Pack of 1) to try out on our 1 year old daily driver. I’m not a fanatic about this car, but I do like it reasonably easy to clean.

This soap mixes easily into the bucket with the instructions on the bottle. I used enough for a light, typical wash. This wash smells strong out of the bottle but once diluted, it is pretty tame. The suds lasted the entire wash for our larger vehicle. Biggest thing I liked is that this soap seems to rinse off cleaner without leaving the water spots many car wash solutions do. Wonderful!

This car wash suds up very well (see photos).

For my test, I placed 1/3 of a cup into a 3-gallon bucket, and then filled the bucket with a hose. The instructions suggested that you should first dilute the soap in a 1:2, 1:5, or 1:10 ratio (depending on the concentration you desire) before adding the rest of the water, but I am too impatient for that and just added water like I normally do. Despite being “eco friendly” and containing natural ingredients, I was very happy with the results. Although I thought I would surely have to use more soap than I usually do, I found out that I will be able to use less. 1/3 cup was certainly more than I needed for a three-gallon bucket. I think next time I will try 1/4 cup or less.

It worked very well, and I am pleased with the results. One of the more impressive features is that this carwash is pH-balanced! This will help to protect your finish, and will help to prevent water spots.

Although not advertised for washing your driveway, when I was done with my testing I poured the remaining, leftover sudsy water on the driveway and scrubbed the driveway as well. I can see a difference in the old stains there…not as much as if I used a harsh chemical cleaner and power washer, but a positive, noticeable difference just the same.

I don’t think my car cares, but this product has a pleasant aroma to it as well.

I hope this review was helpful, and I highly recommend this very sudsy, very protective, and very environmentally friendly car wash soap.

Probably the main thing I’d like to know before I ordered this would be the mixing instructions. For a Slightly Dirty car it’s a ratio of one part Soap to 10 parts water, Medium Dirty? 1 part soap to 5 parts water. Super Dirty? 1 part soap to 1 part water (that’s a lot of soap). Since I’m cheap I did my own thing (sorry in advance to the GearHugger folks).

I added 6 Tablespoons (about 1/3 cup) to a bucket 3/4 full of warm water. It made a nice foam and smelled good. When I got to my car I realized that it was going to be “Old Rocket’s” First Cleaning of the Year. It was Dirty. There was Tar. There were little black spots on the roof that I get after the Winter (super hard to remove). TRUE CONFESSIONS FOLLOW: I don’t recommend this, but I’ve got nothing to lose (trust me). On the black spots and tar I would just use a little full strength soap ( on a wet sponge and wet car) and it worked like a charm (yes, I used a scrubber sponge too on the really bad stuff- definitely don’t do that on your newer car).

My car only gets so clean after 43 years and a half million miles, but now it looks happy, shiny and like spring has sprung. And speaking of spring, it’s a good feeling to know I’m using a product that isn’t toxic (I poured the leftovers on my flower garden, will update this if anything dramatic happens).

Value for money? There’s cheaper Car wash out there, but it might not make you feel as good as using something that’s good for the environment!

The one star was deducted because I really want to know how much soap to add to a bucket of water instead of ratios. (And I don’t want it to be half the bottle).

I recently tried the Gear Hugger Car Wash Soap, and I’m thoroughly impressed. The eco-friendly formula, enriched with natural saponins and eucalyptus, not only cleans my car effectively but also leaves a refreshing scent. It’s biodegradable and safe for all vehicle surfaces, which aligns perfectly with my commitment to environmentally conscious products. The 16 oz bottle goes a long way, providing excellent value. Knowing that I’m using a product that’s both effective and kind to the planet makes this my go-to car wash soap.
