The clamps are metal and lock in my phone very nice, I’ve never had any problems with my phone slipping out of the holder losing its grip. The only downside is that since the joints tighten, they can become loose and the holder itself will collapse at the joints causing the holder to swivel and move with the motion of the car. As long as you keep them tightened it work great

I liked the idea of it automatically opening and closing but, in practice, it isn’t for me. Taking a star away because the mounting doesn’t work for every vehicle. I have five cars in my driveway and it only works on two of their vents. I ordered this for my wife’s car where it would only mount to the vent piece itself but once the weight of the phone was put on it, the vent piece broke. On two others, the footprint outside the hook was bigger than the pictures indicate and wouldn’t rest nicely against the dash because either the radio or the dash design would get in the way. I decided to put it in my work truck since it fit best in there; however, I’m running into an issue where it will occasionally open up and drop my phone with my hand gets to close while turning. It’s something I’m getting used to but you should be aware the motion sensor is very sensitive.

Unfortunately the feature where it opens with a wave was also activated by me using the steering wheel. This was the only place I could put the mount and see without cords going everywhere. If your vents are in different locations this may not happen to you. It’s unfortunate because it looks good and was easy to use. I have a pixel 8 pro and it fit my phone very well. Another issue I realized once I got it is that the charging port is blocked so I couldn’t charge and connect to the car at the same time. If your car connects completely wirelessly this would work but it doesn’t fit my situation at all.

I tried this holder in both my own Equinox and my wife’s Camry. It did not work in the Camry because the mount only works well with vertical vents. The mount will fit a horizontal vent, but the alignment of the support feet is such that the phone will not be supported adequately. With a vertical vent it took a while to get it aligned, but it’s sturdy enough.
Four stars, not five, because:
As shown in one of my photos, one of the rubber protection feet is missing (not fallen off, just missing–it wasn’t anywhere in the box)
With only a single charging loop, it charges slowly, especially if you’re using Waze, Spotify, and Bluetooth.
The sensor to open the holder likes to react even when you don’t want it to, such as when you’re swiping on the phone to switch apps. A push button would have been both more secure and less expensive.

This is a nice phone holder if you have/need a vent version. I appreciate that the holder goes not block the vent.
The neat tech feature is that charger is wireless! There is a tiny dongle that fits into the holder. You choose Android or Apple version. Your phone locks into that, hands free. The charger itself stays plugged in.
It’s easy to put your phone in, just tap the button and the holding arms open and then close automatically. Repeat to release.
It’s sturdy and has options for the viewing angle that you prefer. It tightened up easily and has stayed tightly attached. Overall, this is a quality phone charger.

This is very slow to charge my iPhone 11. It will not charge my Samsung work phone at all. Both have cases on them, which may be the reason for the slow charge and the other not working. When I am using my iphone for GPS it maintains the charge at level or maybe goes up a point or two during a 30 minute car ride, but it does not charge much at all. However, if I am only playing music (through Bluetooth into the car speakers) it charges okay. For example, today I had a 45-minute drive where I was not using GPS but was playing music. My phone charged about 10 points during that drive. The wave feature is pretty neat because it sees when you simply reach for your phone or when you are taking your phone towards the charger and it opens automatically. Unfortunately, that also means that if you go to push the next button or answer a call it also will open. The vent clamp did not work with my car, but thankfully the one I was using before worked with this charger and so I managed to get it connected that way.

I really loved the idea of the phone holder opening and closing automatically; however, it sometimes opens spontaneously. This has caused my iPhone to fall on a couple of occasions. This is certainly not ideal. Yet, when it does stay closed with my phone in the crade, it charges my iPhone effectively, speedily, and without issue. The mount worked very well on my horizontal car vents. I had no problems with the mount detaching from the car vent. I was also able to use the mount in both a vertical and landscape position. While it does charge effetively, I cannot wholeheartedly recommend this device because of the spontaneous opening of the cradle and the risk this poses to your device and driver safety.
