To start, the size and shape is perfect for the opening on my dash board. It’s easy to know the interior from the outside thermometer. One is a lot longer.
I wired it to my fuse box which was literally 6 inches away. The thermometer for outside i tried to keep out of the wind and protected from the engine heat. The interior i had come out by the driver side away from the vents.
I needed a quick glance at temperatures just to satisfy my curiosity. It’s a nice feature
Ethan B –
I have a temperature display in my more recent model car and I saw this and thought it would be a great addition to my older F150 truck. On my car it has a single display, with two buttons, one to flip between Fahrenheit & Celsius, the other to flip between inside and outside. This one is great because you can see both inside and outside at the same time, but as far as I can tell there is no way to change it to Celsius – in fact the “F” is printed right on the faceplate. So that’s a bit of a bummer, as I do travel and drive internationally and I am comfortable with both systems.
It did not come with any installation instructions, nor cutout template. I’ll have to watch a youtube I think to figure out what the best places to install the probes are
Hooking it up on my workbench, it works ok – though with both probes mere inches apart it has a full 1.5 degree differential between them – meaning one or the other or both are off by some margin. I couldn’t find a way to adjust them either – ideally you’d have a pot or other dial to fine tune the temp, as there is some variation in the sensors in manufacturing and also will be some variation in install location that you might want to adjust for
My final nitpick is that they display in fractions of a degree. Which you’d think would be nice, but the display updates frequently and with sub-degree updates up and down it is actually kind of distracting. I suspect this is why my OEM system only displays in full degrees F, or half degrees C – it reduces the element of driving distraction of it bouncing around up and down
It’s a workable unit, but for the price I expected more thought and substance
