The cap itself fits properly in the filler neck, but the little knob for the retention strap does not fit in the hole for the strap to actually do its job. It is a completely different shape

This fuel cap fits and works exactly like the original on the car. It seems to be made of the same quality material and every molded detail matches. I fitted it to the fuel tank and it seals perfectly, screws down firmly and the peg fits the cap holder on the fuel door for when you are refueling. I would suggest a thin film of Vaseline on the rubber seal to ease screwing it down as it fits very firmly. This is indistinguishable from the original Volkswagen product.
