I am using Bussmann 150 Amp Circuit Breaker for my Amperics ultra cap battery. Much better than fuses – this also works as a cut off switch for when you see the smoke rising. It works for my application.
To Protect the Innocent –
I had my Solar system set up with a 120A breaker on the inverter/battery. I had one of the cheap-chinese immitation breakers. It would easily trip the breaker after just a few minutes at 80 Amps.
I learned that this thermal breaker uses dissimilar metals that warp and separate when they heat up. Hence “thermal breaker”. The problem is, they will easily trip well below the rated current, if left running for long enough. They easily overheat. I up-rated the breaker to 150A and that worked for 2 seasons, but eventually, it started to fail again. It would trip at lower and lower currents after shorter and shorter time.
I also learned that all these $15 breakers are an immitation of the $40 Bussman breaker. I bought this Bussman breaker after two of those cheaper breakers failed. Now I never have any issues with my solar system, since I got the Bussman breaker.

I bough this to replace the cheap white label brand fuses and this seems to be holding well with my 4 gauge wire running 240 amp alternator. voltage is regulating better.

I was expecting it to look like the picture, but it’s the newer style I assume(?). So it doesn’t match my 80A breaker that’s right next to it. Not a big deal but it was the reason I bought it, so just be aware of that. Otherwise it will work perfect for my inverter setup I’m mounting in the truck.

This Bussman Circuit Breaker is much better than the no name fuse holder that I purchased previously. That one broke and came apart as I was installing it. Oh well, at least it came with some nice thick cables that I am using for this install. This Bussman I installed with no issues and works as expected. I am using this as a circuit breaker as well as an on/off switch for a power-inverter that I have installed under the dashboard in my truck. I would recommend this product highly and Bussman is a good quality company.
