Emission controlled motors need O2 sensors to run properly. My E350 was repaired by Ford. New Catalytic Convertors were installed along with new spark plugs and coil packs. Cost was almost $5000! A year later, after less than 3000 miles, the catalytic convertors failed again. Ford would not honor the warranty because the convertors failed because the fuel/air mixture had too much gas which caused the failure. The engine code reader said, “O2 Sensor bank one … bank two, stuck lean, permanent.” Note-Ford had not replaced O2 sensors! The engine controller was trying to add more gas to correct the lean indication from the O2 sensors. My mechanic immediately saw the problem, replaced the sensors but also had to replace the catalytic convertors AND since it was in his shop, he again replaced spark plugs and coil packs. Another 5 grand down the tubes.
IF your car or truck’s O2 Sensors fail, your catalytic convertors are at risk. Have someone check the engine codes if it starts using excess gasoline. Catalytic convertors may take a year to fail but fail they will!
