This is for anyone who has a vehicle or motorcycle or ATV or boat or literally anything that has a 12 volt battery in it. That would be quite many people. I would estimate that less than 2/3rds of that group has a battery charger / trickle charger.
These are so easy to use nowadays. You just take your two alligator clips and match up the colors for positive and negative and then plug in the charger. Most models will start to immediately charge. It is not difficult by any means. This charger can charge at 6 amps which is decent for how much it costs. But wait, there’s more! It has options for other charging methods. One of them is the ‘trickle charge’. That type of charge helps maintain a battery to it’s fullest potential and it does so smartly. It features a digital readout to help you in your choices and to help you see what it is doing. I would advise everyone to have one of these. It can help you be on time arriving at work. Lame, I know. Consider the following then.
Ever had a dead battery? Guess you can’t go visit your friends or if it was your boat, did you find out at the landing? Not going fishing if you cannot start the outboard can you now. I remember battery chargers from the bad-old-days – if they were big and heavy – then they were good ones.
My first battery charger was the Sear’s Die Hard 6-12V dumb charger, cost about $100 in 1970 – it was a big black metal box, had a handle, and moved around on wheels. I still have it and it still works …. sort of – at least for 12V but no longer for 6V.
We can’t talk about battery chargers without a word or two about 12V batteries – ugh!!! Are we being taken to the cleaners or what? Every time I go into the big-box store to buy a new 12V battery, it cost twice as much as it did 4 years earlier. I didn’t get a 50% increase in salary, did you? My most recent Prius 12V battery replacement cost me $250. When I buy 12V battery replacements for my ordinary vehicles, I always buy the “value” version and can usually get out of the big-box store with my blouse still on my back and a 12V battery receipt just under $100, no money left for fun.

I doubt that there is any possibility of overcharging or leaving it on all night long because as I observed, this smart charger reads the status of the battery every few seconds and modifies the charging voltage accordingly.
Keep in mind – no battery charger can bring-to-life a battery that is truly dead, so if this charger does not respond to a dead battery – then the internal resistance of the subject battery is beyond repair. This Arkare will simply turn off – which says “I can’t do this, because it can’t be done”. I know, I tried it on the truly dead battery in my 1966 VW.
This Arkare Smart 12V Battery Charger has the all-new and popular “rejuvenation” function, which sounds good in theory, but whether it really works or not is another thing. The whole principle is based on bouncing current beams around inside the battery in order to remove sulfur particle build-up on the internal metal plates that function to hold healthy electrical charge, composed of healthy acidic molecules (you guessed it, I majored in Chemistry at MIT). Whether it works or not? who cares? – as long as anything “might” be claimed to prolong the life of my vehicle’s ailing 12V battery for even a month or two – is worth trying. Maybe if we have “faith”, it will help.
This Arkare Smart 12V Battery Charger is not useful for starting engines when you have a dead battery – because the output amperage is only 6A maximum – whereby the required amperage to crank an engine is 300-600A.
My last 3 big-box battery chargers where not all that smart and cost just under $100 each – all are in the trash because they just didn’t last that long.

This 12v trickle charger is going to be great for keeping my truck batteries charged. I don’t drive the truck much, and have had issues in the past with the batteries draining over time. I got this little charger to keep the batteries fresh, charged, and ready for that monthly run to the home improvement store.
The case is plastic, so I would not recommend this for any type of garage use. It should be fine for home use, though. Looking forward to getting in the vehicle, turning the key, and not hearing that dreaded “click click click” sound.

Got this to use for when I need an emergency quick jump (thankfully — a rarity). Kind of cheap feeling in all honesty so I wouldn’t be using this thing very often or a lot, like a garage would. However, if you’re like me and just need something to have as a “just in case” item, this is very useful.
Was very easy to use and get a jump going. Considering the price (around 30 bucks), thats not too bad in all honesty.
