I ordered these HD shocks for my 2013 Avalanche to replace, came new with vehicle, gas filled ZW7 “luxury ride shocks” which do provide a more supple ride. However, these HD shocks ARE NOT supposed to be, and are not, gas filled while the original ones are (see Item: ACDelco GM Original Equipment 560-701 Rear Shock Absorber for these – probably same as for Suburban, Tahoe, etc. as they use the same chassis during that period as far as I can tell). I knew this when I ordered them but I wanted HD shocks. The reason I returned them was different – they are one inch + shorter than the original shocks, thus limiting suspension travel by that amount. If you live in the flatlands, this is probably no issue – the shocks appear vary stoutly built with a significantly larger diameter and probably better for heavier loads/towing than the cushier ones. I live in the mountains where off-road travel is nearby, frequently done, and sometimes on very uneven tracks so suspension travel is important. I gave it three stars for that reason only. Should your needs be just staying on the highway with heavy loads or towing, these will probably be fine, maybe even better, for you and would rate five stars.

I’ve put these ACDelcos on my 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 (525-21) and on my 2010 GMC Yukon XL (525-68) and they made a big improvement in handling. Both the truck and SUV would bounce a lot going over the railroad tracks down the street so I feel the difference almost every day. The old stock shocks would cause the vehicles to bounce around a lot going over bumps and I could feel the sway left to right while carrying heavy loads. I didn’t realize it at the time but the old stock shocks in the rear end also contributed to the front end sway and bounce. The new shocks have made every day driving much smoother and driving with heavy loads more stable. The truck and SUV feels more stable without a load and there is a lot less bounce. When my kids ride in the back of the SUV they notice a much smoother ride and I’m sure if they rode in the back of the truck they would say the same thing too.
I installed both rear shocks in less than an hour, two bolts per shock, one top and one bottom. Easy DIY project but make sure you wear your safety glasses when installing so you don’t get an eye full of dirt, and use a cheater bar to save your back and shoulders. I didn’t need a jack or need to take off the tire, just something to slide on under the car and the wrenches for the bolt and nut.
One thing to note is these shocks are not like the stock shocks and can be compressed and extended by hand. This is by design. Try to compress or extend them rapidly and you’ll notice the dampening aspects of this design then try compressing the stock shocks. You’ll notice the difference.

These are great shocks. I put them on my 02 GMC Yukon Xl. It has 173,000 miles and still had the factory shocks on it. It feels like a completely different vehicle now. These are slightly smaller in diameter than the factory shocks but they’re still bigger than the Monroe shocks. AC Delco is a direct GM factory replacement part so they are great quality. I highly recommend them if you have a Suburban, Yukon Xl or Tahoe. They are easy to install. I did it in my driveway with normal hand tools.

Not sure what the deal is, but had two shocks delivered and both were defective. Shock would not expand when compressed by hand, and was way too easy to compress by hand. Acted like a totally shot shock. Pretty sure there is nothing you need to do to “activate” a shock. Every shock I have ever purchased elsewhere came with a retaining clip on them to keep them compressed in their box. These did not. Shock was fully compressed in box and I had to pull it apart by hand to expand it. Then, if you pressed the two ends together, squish, the shock just compressed and then did not expand.

Finally got around to replacing the original shocks on the rear of my ’08 Yukon at 128,000 miles. . These were bigger and more solid than the originals. Metal jacket, not plastic. Larger diameter. Went on without a fight, but I had proper tools and experience.
No, they are NOT pre-charged gas shocks. They came collapsed (shortest position). It took a good bit of strength to expand them to the proper length for installation. But, that’s much easier than fighting with a pre-charged shock that you have to compress to get it in. They felt very solid. Folks that complain that they don’t expand on their own don’t understand shock absorbers,and probably shouldn’t be doing this job themselves.
My ride does feel better. I’ll know for sure after a few hundred miles with my travel trailer. Should be just fine.

Received product about a week ago, just open the box and the shocks are not even strapped and do not extend out like they are supposed to.You can push it in with your hand and pull it out with your hand. Don’t waste your money, buy it at a auto part store.
