Its a replacement air filter, it fit like factory, filters the air in my miata.

I was looking for a cheaper alternative for my Miata’s OEM air filter (for which the price on Amazon soared since I last purchased it a year ago). The ACDelco was a bit cheaper than the other 3rd party filters, and since the reviews on those weren’t stellar, I chose to go the cheapest route.
The filter doesn’t have a marking of front/top like the OEM one, but since it’s shape isn’t symmetrical (one of the corners is sharper than the rest), it only fits one (the correct) way. Speaking of fitting it – it might be a bit larger/bulkier than the OEM filter I took out because closing the airbox with the new filter in required quite an effort. I can see why some reviews of aftermarket filters complain about the size and the fit. Nevertheless, by firmly holding the airbox closed, I managed to wrestle the retaining clips into their spots, and the airbox is tightly closed now. TL;DR: it requires some force, but fits well in the end.
Hoping to see some improvement in terms of fuel consumption – the old filter I took out (a bit under a year old) looks quite dirty, compared to this new one.

Follow up – while this Delco filter did not fit at all, the OE Denso filter popped right in. Less than 5 minute change. I do not recommend wasting your time and effort on fighting with this filter.
i have been replacing air filters on 3 Miatas since I bought my first Miata in 1990. I thought Delco would know what they are doing and would maintain quality control over their air filters made in China but apparently they don’t. Comparing this filter with the OEM Denso made in Japan, the edge on this filter is FAR too think (nearly 1/8 inch too thick!) to seat properly in the clam shell cover that has to pivot over the thick material in order to close, which mine didn’t. Some customers had no problem – more than likely they lucked out and got filters that were the OEM thickness. Save yourself some trouble and avoid risking cracking your clamshell air filter box, spend the extra $14 and get the OEM.

Didn’t fit my Mazda MX-5. The filter is just a little bit too big and you can’t close the filter box
