Update: a couple months in, the cable has already stretched to where I couldn’t open the tailgate today. I had to take it back apart and put a spacer on it until I can get another cable. Everything else is functioning as it should.
Installed in my 2002 Sequoia this morning. My old trunk latch was getting very hard to open, to the point where it took 2 hands. This part, combined with a new handle made it almost effortless to open now. Install was pretty straight forward for the mechanically inclined. I’m not sure my grandma could do it, but my wife could. This part looked exactly like the OEM one I removed. It’s only been on for a few hours, so we’ll see how long it lasts, the factory one lasted 21 years. I plan on keeping this vehicle forever, so, I’ll update my review in the future if necessary.

I installed this quickly on my 2001 Toyota Sequoia with a bypass handle and a homemade cable that allows me to open the door simply from the inside something Toyota never did. It still locks as it should. I hope I never have to buy it again.

Worked perfectly. On a 2006 Sequoia, three bolts and two electric plugs. But if you replace the handle, don’t use the all metal, use the Toyota OEM. Trust me.

This is a decent amount of work to install, it will require you to disassemble the rear door that lifts up but the plug fit correctly for our 2003 Toyota Sequoia and I also replaced the rear hatch handle because we were experiencing issue with that as well. So to avoid repetition I waited until I had both parts and then installed them at the same time. If you’re unfamiliar with how to I would recommend that you watch a YouTube video on how its done. Otherwise it went pretty well. Took me about 2 hours to fully install both of them and put everything back together. Still working to date and haven’t had any issues with this part since. Odds are this will be the only time you need to replace this part.
