Water pump, tensioner and idler pulleys all seem good. However A-Premium timing belt came apart within 10,000 miles of install. Luckily the BEW engine shut down with a “camshaft out of tolerance” code. I opened the timing cover to find a pile of timing belt teeth piled up inside. And once I rotated the engine to line up the cam timing pin, the crank was 2-3 teeth off from its timing hole, due to the missing timing belt teeth. (20 teeth missing from the belt) I evaluated the water pump and tensioner and decided that they were still serviceable. So I bought a Gates timing belt and installed it. We will see how much longer the Gates belt lasts!

A great kit ! Dont forget to buy a lock down kit and have a jack to lift motor AND remove motor mount . Educate your self on the tentioner and plan about 3 hrs or more. The materials seem of great quality. Theres a few good forums and youtubes on this complete task

2004 1.9l BEW has ALH style water pump from factory. The sealing surface of the pump to the block does not match and will leak.

Purchased pump and had the mechanic install. He called me back and told me after 5 minutes of running the pump was leaking. I trust him as he is reputable and have done many pump and timing belt r & r’s. I wont be purchasing from this outfit again

Don’t do it!!! Belt failed after 1 year and 40k kms!!!
I went cheap, now my motor is a paperweight and I’m looking at spending $1000 + to put a used engine in myself or scraping the car.
I put this kit in thinking I wouldn’t have to worry for 3-4 years. I took a continental belt off that was obviously higher quality but I had no idea how long it’d been on there.
Learn from my mistake, some parts you shouldn’t scrimp on. Spend the extra 200. It’ll save you thousands.
