UPDATE: As promised after 3,000 miles driven in winter snow and salt, the wheel bearing is silent and smooth! If it ever gives me issues, I will update my with the mileage. As a Toyota tech i’ve done hundreds of these. Even with my employ discount, this product was $70 cheaper so i gave it a shot. I appreciate the money this part saved me so I will address the critical comments so that the few unknowledgeable people who tried this wont stop you from saving money like I did. All I ask is that you return the favor and review your sketchy Amazon vehicle part purchases so that others can know if it’s a buy or not.
ADDRESSING ZED’s ONE STAR REVIEW: Be absolutely sure that you tighten the bolts/axel nut holding the wheel bearing to torque spec. If you do not, on a small level, the wheel bearing can wobble and misalign which will stress and ruin the bearing over a few short miles. It may feel secure when your car is on jacks, but as soon as the 3000lbs of your vehicle press on the mounting points of that wheel bearing in a turn, you better hope it doesn’t shift because all that stress if going straight to the bearing which is designed to spin not support vehicle weight. Most of you know this but Zed clearly hasn’t turned a wrench much. I’ve seen it happen all the time.
GREASING THE BEARING: Do NOT do this. Don’t listen to the poor guy’s review that claims that you need to take apart the bearing to add more grease. These are sealed bearings meaning that there is supposed to be a very small amount of grease inside. Adding more creates too much friction. If the heat doesn’t burn up your bearing, the dirt that and water that can now enter will. This is a very old practice done on cars made well before the 80s. Your bearing wont make it past 5000 miles if you do this.
