  1. A-Tech

I plugged this into a EB3A power bank while I changed my battery on my 2014 Prius V in a Costco parking lot and did not loose any settings.

  2. AmazonBuyer

Blew a fuse in my 2016 Subaru Crosstrek when Plugged into OBDII. Looked it up in online chat rooms for, and many others have had the same issue. DOESN’T WORK WITH SUBARU.
    Might work with other brands.

11-11-2019 update. I looked into it a bit more You cannot allow a light to come on or a radio to start, or any electrical draw to occur while you are powering the car through the OBDII port. This will inevitably blow a fuse according to what I read. With this in mind, I have two other cars that are getting new batteries before the month is out, and I will try again. Keep the key fob far away & have the window lowered and door stays closed.

Bumped overall rating up to 3 even if it does work well because instructions do not emphasize this at all. Wasted my time finding and replacing the blown fuse.

    Otherwise, nice concept.

Nov 26, 2019 update: Two more battery changes accomplished, and no issues. One Hyundai and one Subaru. I made sure there wasn’t a current draw when I was using the backup battery & all went as planned. Nice!
I have bumped the rating to a 4 star. It would be an easy 5 star if only the instructions were complete. Never let any light, chime, etc happen while you’re using the memory saver battery, and it will work as advertised!

  3. Chevy05

Changed out a 6 year old AGM battery in a 2016 Chevy Equinox before a trip. The battery was somewhat buried and I did not want to take a chance on losing my settings as the battery exchange was not going to be that fast. Purchased this and connected it to a fully charged 12 volt lawn mower battery. The red light came on and I proceeded to disconnect the car battery. Heard clicking under the hood when I removed the cables and the interior lights did not work. Thought maybe the diagnostic circuit only powered the ECU, and the lights would be on a separate circuit. Proceeded to swap the batteries and reconnected the cables. My radio settings including Sirius XM saved as did the trip mileage records, but the clock was way off by more than 4 hours. Battery was only disconnected for maybe 15 minutes? The radio is set to auto correct but it never did correct itself. That is the only thing that I noticed so far, but don’t understand why. So I am not sure if this actually worked or if the ECU itself retained memory without this cable being hooked up. The clamps came with one clam having red vinyl covers over the handles, but the other clamp had one red and one black covers when they should be both black. The vinyl covers are flimsy and easily fall off of the clamps. I have never returned anything to Amazon but this might be my first time. Maybe GM does not use pin# 16 for 12 volt power?

  4. BTN-TX

The cable is long enough to connect to the lighter of another car parked along side, and also comes with clips that can be used to attach to another battery instead. The device did work in maintaining nearly all the settings in my 2019 Mazda during a battery change. The only setting lost was the time, and the only data lost was for the two trip counters (Trip A & B mileage and MPG), which are not important to me. I understand that it is not unusual to lose the clock and trip counters. I recommend this device and would buy it again.

Came quickly and fits my use for it.

This device is a major labor saver if you have to replace the battery in your car or truck. It keeps the electrical system energized while you disconnect the battery, so you don’t lose some of your various settings saved in volatile memory (radio settings, garage door pairing, seat and steering wheel positions, etc ). You simply attach the clamps to another 12v battery (your second car for example) and then plug in the OBDII and 12v can back feed into your car’s system and keep volatile memory “alive.”
