What was my problem you ask? Well, my wife was tired of getting her head hit from the tailgate coming down on our 2008 Lexus Rx350. It opened automatically and then waits for her to get something from the back and closes on her. Simple fact is that gas struts wear out and need replacing. This particular after market set was pretty inexpensive so I bought them, installed them (about 10 minutes max) and they work like new. It should be noted that they are about 4-6mm longer than the original struts, but they fit and work normally. Of course my one concern is how long they’ll last? But for the price and the easy installation, if my wife doesn’t complain for a couple of years (about this) it will be well worth it.

Can’t yet say if these struts will last (hope so) but the price was right and they are working as if new after the installation that required about 15 – 20 minutes to complete on my Lexus, year 2008, RX350.
Prop the hatch open – do each side, one at a time – remove the round clasps – pop the top and bottom of the strut off and clean the area where they go – pop the top the new one, then bottom of the new strut on – and you are done, when you’ve done both sides. BTW, don’t remove the clasps on the new struts -they just expand as you push them over the ‘ball’ when installing.

Installed in 5 minutes. Works great… good instructions. Make sure you have a helper to hold up the door/hood/hatch.

how to do extensive research to make sure that the struts that I got were the right ones. There were so many mixed reviews on various different struts from Amazon to eBay. I went with these and I’m very pleased with how they function. Was able to install them in less than two minutes and they work very good.

Perfect replacement for my 2009 Lexus RX 350 tailgate. I used a properly sized 2×4 piece of wood to hold the tailgate up for easy install. I didn’t realize how worn the OEM struts were until I put these on. Extremely pleased with how well they work!

Best price, but won’t pull enough to open the trunk. Anyways I’m forced to pull the door of the trunk with my hand almost all the way up. Yes it holds the door open, but does not help in opening it.
Installed these during below 0 celsius temperatures. Might me they don’t like cold. Will wait for summer time to give a final opinion.

So the original left strut gave out on my 2008 Lexus RX350. Looked online for replacement struts and decided to go with these. Installation probably took around 10 minutes. The only tools we used were a small flathead screwdriver to pop out the clips of the original struts and a ladder to help prop up the hatch door.
Overall, these did the job just fine. The only reason it’s not a 5 star review is that these replacement struts are a bit stronger than the original struts. The original ones are rated for 148lbs, and the replacements are rated for 152lbs. The hatch door now opens slightly more than it used to and you need a little more effort in physically closing it. Maybe over time it’ll settle in.
With all that being said, I’m happy I can use my trunk again like I used to. It’s an easy DIY fix and definitely much better than going to an autoshop that could easily charge like $100+ to fix it.

Installed these on a customer’s 2007 Lexus RX350 and the fit was perfect. Quick, easy install and the liftgate works like it’s brand new. Solid pressure, smooth operation, and a great replacement for worn-out originals. Definitely recommend for a hassle-free fix!
