Even though I received this product at no cost to me, I am reviewing it as though I had paid full price for it.
This product arrived in a simple plastic bag. All that was included is the socket itself and approximately 1 meter of 18 AWG positive and negative cables with ring terminals on the ends. There is a hinged, flip down plastic cover to prevent things from accidentally falling in the opening. The adapter will require 3 inches of clearance behind the panel in which it is installed. The red or positive wire comes with a 10 amp, in-line fuse, which is adequate for the length and gauge of wire. 10 amps is sufficient current for something like a Bluetooth adapter, a phone charger or a dashboard mounted GPS. It is insufficient for anything which may provide heat such as a heated seat cushion or cigarette lighter.
I was not able to use this adapter in the application I was hoping for because of the limitations in the way it secures to the panel. It has a push tab on each side of the barrel that only work with a specific panel thickness. Better adapters of this type, have a screw down collar or wide flange that can accommodate different panel panel thicknesses. Also, there is a notch at the 12 o’clock position that will be required to be cut into the panel for the adapter to fit flush, so more than just a simple, round hole is required for mounting. It would’ve been nice if an instruction sheet was included, indicating what size hole needs to be in the panel for this to mount to and the required panel thickness.
I would return this item if I was able to. While it would work for the right application, I would’ve preferred something with more adjustability to different panel thicknesses and thicker gauge wire which could handle more current.
