If you read through the product page there’s a lot of instructions on how this works. Too many instructions.
I think 99% of us just want something quick and simple to use if we’re stuck with a dead battery. I don’t want to read a ten page manual the size of a book of stamps with a magnifying glass when I just need my car to start.
Its usefulness is limited as well. It’s not a jump box that’s self powered so if your battery dies anywhere that a plug in isn’t 5 feet away you’re out of luck.
There are simply better alternatives than this.

This is a more advanced, Next Generation battery charger that offers some unique features.
First connect the alligator clips to the battery (NOT for lithium batteries). Then connect to power supply.
Select Mode. TBH, the mode light is pitiful. Very difficult to see in direct sunlight. I had to shade it with my hand and just barely could tell where it was.
Once you are plugged into power and have the right mode, you’ll see info regarding your battery status, charge level, etc.
Eventually, it’ll go to FUL (full), but you should keep it attached as it still is trickle charging. Mine took an extra 3 hours! Then, finally, it went to OFF. That’s when it is fully charged and ready to disconnect.
I did see the DFS on the screen early on, which is the desulfurization step. Pretty cool!
I’m glad I found this. I think it’s a pretty good value for what you get. I like it and would recommend it, but I have a few, very small niggles.
It should come with the two-prong attachment so you can hook up to a motorcycle pigtail quick-connect.
The mode light is much too weak. Almost useless.
Not for lithium batteries.
Still, a great smart charger for the price. Has an interior cooling fan, so it doesn’t overheat. The alligator clip cables are longer than most people will need. Decent instructions. Seems priced right.

I’ll start out with saying I love this thing and it has some great features on it that no other charger or battery maintainer I have ever owned has. However, for a trickle charger it’s missing one very important feature. All of my lawnmowers and motorcycles and ATVs have the two prong quick connect adapters already attached to the battery. Some of the batteries such as my motorcycle and ATVs are incredibly difficult to access and that’s why you permanently keep these quick connect adapters on them. This charger comes with only the alligator clips so it makes those quick connect adapters attached to the battery year round obsolete and useless. I won’t be able to use this on any of my motorcycles or ATVs. I am stuck using my battery tender brand chargers and maintainer. Were that not the case, I probably would’ve ordered four or six more of these.
This charger has some amazing features on it. The different modes that you can choose from are very small to read and the light is hard to see so do not try to use this without your glasses! I tried to hook this up to a battery and had to go back in the house to find my glasses. I used it to charge a battery that came out of one of our vehicles that was crushed by a tree that fell in a storm last fall. Before the insurance company came to haul the car away, I took the battery out of it because with six vehicles, I knew I would need a battery in something soon. It’s been sitting out in the shop and was drained so I hooked this up to it and it did a great job of charging it up. I love the fact that it tells you if the battery is overheating or not (even though it has built-in protections to prevent that and overcharging). It shows you the voltage and tells you if the battery is in good condition or if it’s lifecycle is shortening or near its end. So much better than anything else I’ve ever owned. If you redesign this, please add the quick connect clips to it so that I can use it on my summertime toys!

This battery charger worked once and that was it. I used it to charge an ATV battery, and it worked great and quickly. I tried to use it again last week and it won’t do anything. No display, nothing. It wound up in the garbage can.

I purchased 3 lithium batteries and needed one charger that did lead acid deep cycle charging. Worked good only thing I wish it would do lithium as well. But it does what I need it to do.

Modern inverter technology has helped shrink the common 12A battery charger by 50-75%. This one is much smaller and lighter than my old 12A ‘smart’ charger, with more features, including reverse protection (a big deal) and a capacity meter that tries to tell us the capacity remaining in a battery. While I wouldn’t depend on the actual number it shows, it does give a good indication on whether a battery is healthy or not. I ran the charger on two different batteries; one that had been slightly abused (run dead before detecting the load on it) and the other that was much older and had been removed from service due to age and loss of ability to crank the engine. The ‘abused’ one showed ~60% capacity after charging, and the older one showed 10%, after a full charge cycle. So the capacity meter does give some indication of battery health.
Be aware that the cables on both ends are quite short; ~18″ for the battery cables and ~30″ for the AC cord. A lot of users will need an extension cord regardless of charger wire length, but a lot of us are able to use a typical charger without extension because we have outlets near the vehicle. Not happening with this charger. The cords also exit opposite ends of the charger, with no provision for winding them on its body, making stowage inconvenient since there’s no case included. Not ideal as a portable emergency use charger, but workable if using as a replacement for your ‘bench’ charger.
