I use two of these for two completely different projects. My first design used 12VDC input to operate a 12VDC relay to turn off a 12V high current strip light after 15 minutes. This worked so good that I bought another one and I have the input as 120VAC to control a 120VAC appliance (Projector cooler) and after 3 hours, it turns off my 120VAC projector cooler (no relay needed) as I sometimes forgot to turn off my projector cooler after the movie was over.

Very easy to program the off time. Very cool!!

Se ve de buena calidad. Funciona correctamente.

It has a lot of functions, but I just wanted something to turn on my PC 5mins after power returns (so that the dirtiest power is past before I turn on my computers). This does that simply, so can’t complain.

This is a review of the Gaeyaele 16 amp Multifunction Relay, type 2.

I bought a number of the M2 version of this relay. They appear to be a white-label product, and I’m not certain of who actually manufactures them. Regardless, they are fantastic.

First off, do not get too hung up on the “M1” vs “M2” designations. Some resellers, such as Geya Electrical don’t even distinguish between the models in that fashion (they just have a “-M” variant). The last 3 characters distinguish between the “M” or “Multi-function” line, the number of contacts (1 or 2 sets), and if there is a 3rd character, it indicates the voltage range (12-240 volts or 230 volts only). The default is the 12-240 volt configuration. Also note both AC and DC power works with these.

Now, let’s get to the heart of why you may want one of these. The “multi-function” portion, which quite frankly works amazingly well.

The instructions leave much to be desired. Although there is a guide printed on the side of them, you really need to have a look at the instruction sheet before you begin as it is very easy to muck up the settings and then presume the device is defective. Your best bet is probably going to be to lookup some videos on YouTube documenting how to use each setting. Once you figure you which you need and get it dialed in, it’s fire-and-forget. But, even for a technical person like myself, I struggled to understand the gibberish in the instructions to some extent, and resorted to experimentation.

My primary use case for these is the “A” configuration, which is a delayed start. I use them in HVAC applications where the top-most posts are connected to a 24VAC “+” (voltage) and “-” (common) leads from the HVAC fan unit. When the fan turns on, it starts a timer (“A” mode on the relay). When the timer expires, it closes the binding posts in the lower portion of the unit, connecting them. There I typically have a 120vac load. When the HVAC is cut off (fan stops), the power is cut to top posts (the relay part), which cuts power to the lower posts (the business end). This stops the auxiliary device, now that the HVAC is not running.

I’ll say a few words here about longevity and reliability. I’ve been using the “M2” 12-240v version of these for several years now. The newest one I have has been in use for over 2-1/2 years, the others 4+ years without a hitch. I have only used them with VAC, but have experimented with VDC and they performed flawlessly in all of my tests.

I have only had one unit fail to date, after ~30,000 cycles in an attic (Texas) and functioning inside a sealed enclosure (keeps the bugs and ants out). Another piece of equipment in the box failed at the same time, so I don’t know if something like a lightning strike took them out, or if one may have caused the other to fail (and I wouldn’t know which started the fail chain). Regardless, I’m good with that.

Note, my usage for these in some cases (as the failed case described above) is outside the technical specifications of these units. The one I had fail was in a very challenging climate. However, they are still very robust all things considered.

Furthermore, if you’re looking around for a specialized solution as I was, you’re going to find there are VERY few solutions that do not require daisy-chaining multiple devices to accomplish your goals. The best benefit of this device is that you’re essentially getting 2 relays in one, plus additional non-standard relay features.

These have exceeded my expectations and they’re just plain well worth the expense and frustrated learning experience! Highly recommended.

Unlike one of the other relays I purchased from this brand, This one works well. Just keep in mind the wiring is not intuitive. The common contact of the relay is not in the center, but rather is on the side. Takes a little study of the diagram printed on the side of this relay. It has two lights, one indicates power is applied, and the other is the state of the relay. It blinks for the duration of the timing cycle, and goes solid once the time period has elapsed. This is the way it operates for the Delay-On function. It’s a little pricey to use if all you need is a delay-on or delay off relay. However, if you need one of the other functions it offers, then I’d say the price is worth it. Be sure the middle dial is set for something other then all the way counter clockwise. It may not work correctly if it is set that way.

The other thing to be aware of is the clamps are shipped all the way closed. Be sure to open them up before inserting wires.

  6. John Countz

Nice little relays! I am using one to time the glowplugs on my diesel truck and another as a trailer brake delay!

  7. Parrothead

Does exactly as advertised. Only downside is that the relay buzzes when energised.

  8. Cliente de Amazon

Funciona muy bien y se siente de una buena construcción.
Ya solo ver si aguanta un tiempo aceptable.

  9. J Engineer

Function E does exactly what I had been searching for. After the input signal turns off, the relay stays on for the selected amount of time. As long as the input is on, it stays on.

I love that a diagram of how each mode works is printed on the side of the relay. Searching for an old manual months or years later can be frustrating and waste a lot of time. This relay does it right.

My application is with a FlexMax solar charge controller. Once the batteries reach full charge and the charger goes into float mode, the auxillary output activates a contactor, which disconnects grid power from an Aims inverter. The automatic transfer switch kicks in, and the inverter switches to battery.

This is where this relay plays a key role. Sometimes the charger switches between Float and MPPT Float, or temporarily drops out of Float mode due to clouds or something. A large load turning on could also make the battery voltage dip enough to drop it out of Float. The timer relay keeps the contactor on and prevents the inverter from jumping back and forth during these temporary disturbances, reducing wear and tear.

I tried a different hobby timer relay, but its timer started as soon as it received an input, instead of waiting until the input turned off. This Gaeyaele relay does exactly what I needed at a reasonable price.

  10. Towerguy

Purchased these multifunction time relays for a generator project. Thanks to the design work of my engineering brother, I was able to utilized two of these to help control my transfer switch to utilize a neighbors generator for loss of power transfer delay and also restoration of power transfer delays, and they worked wonderfully during several tests, and then in real world power disruptions. I recommend !
