Bought this for my Mercruiser 3.0L inboard engine and our worked like a charm. No problems cranking but the bracket used to support the OEM starter didn’t fit exactly. Was still able to screwit in and works great. Worth the money.

Overall this is a great starter, however, it did not fit my engine perfectly. I have a 1986 Mercruiser 140 (equivalent of the 3.0 before they started calling it a 3.0). The listing says that it will work on 1984+ Mercruiser 3.0s, so I thought it work on my engine, but it didn’t at first. Here is what happened and what I did to fix it:
It bolted on just fine and normal, but when I went to start the engine, all I got was a solenoid click. I spent several hours trying to chase down all of my wiring and make sure everything was as it should be. I couldn’t find any issues with the wiring, but it still wasn’t working. Just to make sure it wasn’t a weak battery or starter, I pulled all my plugs out and tried it; still nothing. Then I tried to turn the engine over by hand and it wouldn’t budge. I put a breaker bar on there (a little difficult with the 3.0 because it doesn’t have an accessible crank nut, but you can get one on the water pump pulley and then push on the belt to stop any slip). The engine still wasn’t turning over, so I started to panic and I thought my engine was seized up. I spent several more hours trying to figure out why it seized or not turning over freely, but to no avail.
Finally, I ended up pulling the starter again (I don’t remember why) and I realized there was a big gouge on the lip below the pinion gear. I realized that the starter was pressing on the flywheel and that was what was stopping the engine from turning. So I ran to the store and grabbed some gasket material and cut it to the exact same size as the foam piece that comes with the starter. I thought that I could put a spacer in there and it would push the starter away from it enough to work. Well it didn’t change anything. Frustrated, I decided to take a rather drastic approach and I used my dremel and cut off wheel and I carefully cut away that lip. After I cut it away I sanded and polished it to make sure there were no sharp edges and so it looked nice (it looked nearly stock!). I made sure before I did the cut that I wasn’t cutting into the actual starter and opening up the sealed marine approved parts, and I didn’t. I installed it and it worked wonderfully. Now that it is in and the starter works, I am very happy. I definetly spent quite a bit of time diagnosing my issues and it my have been better to just return this one and get a different starter or get an OEM one, but now I’m happy with my purchase. I’m sure I voided my warranty, but it was only a $50 starter.
I didn’t take a picture of my alterations before installing it, but I am attaching a diagram showing exactly what I took off on the starter. If I ever pull the starter again (which I hope I never have to, but knowing how boats constantly have issues and mine especially, I probably will) then I will post a photo of the actual modification.

Ordered this for my 3.0 Mercruiser inboard. When it arrived it had a sheet of paper in the box stating there were two different models of starters. This one did not fit my engine however the one on the left would. Would have been good information to list on your ad.
