This item only worked for 3 months. I lost 60.00 dollars from buying it, as the warranty only covers repair or replacement. Plus, the seller doesn’t pay return postage. I do not want a replacement or repair. I have ordered a Remy starter, and it should be a good one. YOU USUALLY GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! BEWARE!
UPDATE 5-01-2015:
I took the starter apart to see what had happened to it. I found that the large ring reduction gear had been made from very cheap white colored plastic/nylon, and had been chewed all up! The plastic used for the ring gear was so soft that it could be cut with a knife. There is a plastic pin on the solenoid, that engages the starters pinion gear, and it was made from the very same weak plastic. This starter was made from very inferior materials. I emailed the seller; they said that they have many different vendors that supply their parts. I suppose that some of their vendors are good, with good products, and defiantly some of them are bad (very bad)! I happened to get one of the bad vendor parts. I will never buy parts from this seller again.

Owned for less than a week, so I would need to update as time goes on.
Put into a 1998 Chevy Lumina, it seemed to have trouble starting the first 3 times, but after the 4th try it’s worked flawlessly.
Has a deeper sound than the stock, and we honestly think the car is driving better.
It took a total of 1.5 hours to replace, here’s why, the bolt on the old starter seemed to have seized.
Actual installation of new starter 5 minutes.
There are two bolts on the starter, I removed the first then went for the second(which is closest to the cab), it wouldn’t budge, after fighting with it I noticed the starter had moved position, so I moved it back, placed the first bolt back in and screwed it in slightly. After doing that the other bolt came out just fine. First time replacing it, maybe that’s well known, but if not, hope it helps someone.
Thus far I would recommend.

This starter is just what I needed for my 99 pontiac grand prix. It was the same size as original and had no trouble installing it. I was in need of a starter after my original starter died on me. I had checked at three different auto parts stores and was shocked at the prices. So I thought maybe a salvage yard picked one up at my local pull your own part place. Took it home put it in the thing sounded like my old chevy pick up LOL! Total miss with that used part that time plus it was annoying starting my car. After a week of my coworkers yelling ” dude change your starter! ” I decided to check on amazon for a new one. I came across this starter, checked to make sure it would fit and price was more to my liking. When this brand new starter arrived I replaced that junk yard starter with this one and it sounded beautiful. Nice quite start up and for way less than a rebuilt im very happy with it. So if you need the 6481 starter get this one it works and sounds beautifully. P.S. This starter fits multiple GM vehicles.

Works flawlessly. It’s been a month and it’s going strong even in below 0 temps. Quiet on startup. Does it’s job. Very pleased. Exceeded my expectations. Very cheap also. You can can 3 of these for the price of one at an auto parts store.

Works perfectly so far, good price, and it was one of the very, very, few things to replace on this car that is fairly easy. Took less time to take off the old starter and put this one on than it takes to replace the back 3 spark plugs(v-6). Will update review in a year. Oh yea, it was exactly the same as the original!
