Need to remain the old boot on tripod case and cover it with this general purpose new boot. This makes its diameter big enough to touch the surrounding wall which may cause damage to the boot. Still it looks ok, but not happy about this product. If it fails, I need to by another car specific boot not a universal one!

Subaru made a bad decision to use butyl rubber boots on the CV joints, and since the front inner boots are close to the exhaust, they don’t last long. The second time I needed to replace the driver’s side, I looked for a silicone rubber boot. This one worked fine, and I’ll use it on the other side when its replacement butyl rubber boot fails again. The steel clamp bands were not very sturdy, so I replaced them with heavier ones from the auto parts store (if I’d thought faster, I could have reused the OEM lever-type bands, but I had cut them off).
If you get to the CV joint soon after the boot splits, you can ignore the old mechanic’s tales about needing to replace the entire CV axle whenever the boot splits: the spinning of the shaft tends to send water and sand away from the bearings, so unless you’d let it go a long time, you can just remove the axle, disassemble and clean the CV joint, repack the grease, and reinstall the axle with the new boot (the CV joint was working OK before you replaced the boot, right?). This approach seems better for me than using a CV axle rebuilt to unknown quality standards, or paying the high price for the dealer to replace it with an OEM CV shaft (particularly if the OEM boots only last 5 years). Of course, if you have to pay someone else U.S. shop labor rates to do that work, it’s cheaper to replace the entire shaft.

The fitment list includes all Ford Focus from 2000 to 2007, but this does not fit my 2004 SE. Mine has 3 large indents in the CV case, so this plain boot will not fit.

Don’t have to worry about rubber and plastic boots cracking when using silicone boots. They may tear easier though if something sharp comes in contact with them. Treat them nice and they will last a long time.

Fits as it should. Seems like good strong rubber/silicone boot material. We will see if it holds up over time. Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is due to the supplied metal zip ties. MUST have the special tool to tighten and crimp and did not specify in description.
Lost in the woods –
I used this universal silicone boot to replace the old rotten rubber boot on my ball and trunnion driveshaft in my 1963 Plymouth Valiant. Worked perfectly! This boot stretches easily so you can pull it through the housing (lube it up so you don’t tear it) without having to press out the center pin, just make sure you cut off the two larger mounting rings on the boot first with sharp scissors. Much cheaper than the reproduction boot and should last longer because it is silicone. I am very happy with this product!

I initially bought these on Amazon. Read the whole review. I recommend them. They are on my car now and working. I installed them with the Dorman air powered installation tool. I only needed to replace the outer CV boots on both sides of my 2010 Toyota Corolla.
* I called Dorman to make sure I got the right fit. They gave me the wrong part number. I ended up buying them from an AutoZone in another county (long drive)
* Not only were they the wrong size, the two bands were missing from one of the boxes.
* Not only were bands missing, they required a special tool to install them. The tech guy at Dorman said I didn’t one but I did. Drove to several parts stores trying to find the tool–it’s only available online. Ended up buying the the type that is tightened with a screw driver.
I still recommend them with the following suggestions:
1. Buy from Amazon well in advance or buy them locally after getting an incomplete or wrong kit. Several parts stores carry them.
2. Buy the band tool from Amazon before you start the job. You’ll need it and it will be cheaper than other sites.
3. If you talk to a Dorman tech, double and triple check any advice.
4. Get Dorman’s stretcher if you don’t want to pull the whole axle. It’s generally a pretty easy job to replace the whole axle once you get to the point where you can replace the outer CV boot, BUT, some axles just don’t want to come off. If you buy the whole axle, the CV boots generally are already installed!

Was easy to install once i got the CV axle out. Used to replace inner boot on Ford Ranger (Europe) XL 2005. Seems thin and flexible but i expect it will last well as long as nothing sharp get to it and punctures it.
Grease supplied was enough for one boot and straps were easy to crimp down with a plier.
Size was correct… didn’t need to trim down.
