As others have mentioned, the included rubber bumper washers are too thick to simply use as is. They can be cut to a thinner width with a sharp utility knife, or a hacksaw if one chooses.
The shocks themselves provide a decent ride, not too stiff at all. In fact, if you are looking for “firmness” you might be happier with an adjustable shock.
My Jeep’s previous owner had these already installed when I bought the vehicle. One shock leaked. So I replaced them both. No noticeable improvement in ride was observed.
The nice thing was that the Jeep already had a lift kit and wheel spacers – so this was a straight forward replacement issue.
Be aware that the very top of the shock spindle has a 5-mm allen wrench socket. That’s how you hold the shock body from spinning when you tighten the main nut. I had to cut the end off my 5mm Allen to get it to fit – my Jeep is a 2014 and the passenger side space at the top of the shock is minimal at best.

Great shocks. Replaced dead stock shocks at 100k miles. Installation was fairly simple. Don’t read the instructions all the way through. They are written by Aliens. Aliens attempting to speak German. If you have basic mechanical aptitude, all you really need from the instruction sheet is the page that shows you how the metal washers and rubber bushings are to be oriented based on the shock type (Typ). The “Typ” should be visible on a label on the shock itself. I believe these were Typ 4.

I did the install with the wheels on, touching the ground. I did jack up the axle on each side to take some height and load off the shock and give a little more working room and so I wouldn’t have to hand compress the new one as much. I put a jack stand under the axle just in case. It might be easier to take the wheels off, I just didn’t feel like it. A ratcheting wrench (forget the size) would have been helpful for removing the stock top nut. For me the new top nut was a different size, one larger I believe. A medium sized pry bar was helpful for maneuvering the new shock into place at the bottom. For my installation I was improving on a “budget boost” 2.5″ inch lift. There was a shock spacer (to be able to use the stock shock length) that was no longer needed because the 5100s have extended reach which I removed. I did this by myself, but having a buddy to help wouldn’t be a bad idea. I had to put my own zip ties to hold the boot because the zip tie that came with the boot seemed just to short for me to grab it and pull it tight. Good luck!

Great shocks for a JK. Installed these on a completely stock JKU to replace the 80k mile old stock shocks. They ride a lot better than the Jeep did even when it was new. No more bouncing on the highway and crazy rocking back and forth going up uneven driveways/entrances.

The reason why I took a star away is because one of the shocks did not include the hardware kit so I had to reuse the stock hardware, no big deal, just annoying.

My Jeep was in need of new shocks after the other “performance budget” shocks blew out after 2.5 years of use (very light off roading). I needed something that could accommodate a 2.5 inch lift and these worked well, they tightened up everything and have great rebound for the price! I am exited for my Jeep again.

Was missing pieces. Had to reuse old parts/bushing

Put these on my 2016 JK Rubicon when I put my 2.5″ Ready Lift 8 arm SST lift on. I didn’t want to use shock extenders on the OEM shocks so I went with these and the ride is nice and soft. We have been out wheeling and crawling, and I have to say, I am really impressed with the flexibility of these. Definitely a good purchase.

Just had these shocks installed by a professional as had multiple upgrades done together (shocks, springs and control arms). So far have put about 100 miles primarily road driving to ensure no pulling, under/over steer issues. Overall, the road ride is smoother and no noticeable bouncing that I had with stock items. Is rougher on dirt roads with multiple closely located potholes but would be expected with any suspension system. The shock install with vehicle lifted took very little time compared to the control arms, about 1 hr total to remove and install with springs done simultaneously. I would recommend this model for those getting a lift taller than 1 inch but less than 3.5 inches.

Absolutely great shocks and easy to install. I know this because I installed one then had to uninstall it.
Only reason for 3 stars is because I ordered a set and I got 2 different shocks in the same box. I tried to find another match but couldn’t so had to send them both back and purchase a different set from a local supplier to put my Jeep back together.

Frustrating. Nothing against the product just the process that grabbed 2 different part numbers.
