I have a mid-80’s project car I’m working-on. The previous owner, for some daft reason, removed all of the creature comforts in the cabin, likely trying to lighten the car to make it more sporty, but that means everything from the heater to the cigarette lighter are missing from the car.
Happily, there are many options like this device for adding charging ports to vintage cars. Because the car is a convertible, I don’t want a radio, so I added a block-off plate to the factory radio location and installed this device onto the block off plate. It did take a bit of grinding to get a hole large enough to fit the device, but other than that, it was a very easy install. The ports work great – I attached them to always-on 12v power from the battery so things will continue to charge with the car off.
There were 2 of these devices in the box – which seems a little strange since I’d think most cars would need only one. All the necessary wiring, including a fuse block on the power line and extra fuses were included. I may use the second device in my old pickup truck, but that truck has multiple cigarette lighter connections, so then again, I may not.
The item does have a rather annoying blue LED ring that lights up when it is on – and that can be difficult on the eyes on dark roads and it definitely doesn’t fit with a vintage interior. Luckily, I’m not really trying to keep the interior particularly vintage and appreciate adding better functionality if possible. Nonetheless, it works as one would expect and it took about 15 minutes to install, so I have to say it is a nice item.

These USB power ports are great. They are high quality and they work well.
I originally thought that having three USB power slots was overkill. I can understand 2, but why three? Now I have changed my tune. It turns out that having three is quite a nice option. I can charge my phone an my headphones at the same time, but I still have that third port available for the secondary items. It is also very handy that these already have an in-line fuse for the wiring. With other brands I have also had to wire in my own fuse protection. I use this to charge some expensive items, so it is great to have that peace of mind.
The construction of the parts is high quality. I have used similar ones from other brands and none have been quite as heavy duty. The included faceplates are a nice touch because it provides a more finished look, but you can also choose not to use them. Some areas, where I might add this powerport, are a little too tight, so I can just leave out the faceplate. As long as the material it is going through is reasonably sturdy, it will work just fine.
I also like the waterproof cap that goes on when not in use. I put one of these in the underdash on my moped and the cover stops water and debris from getting in.
Overall, there is really nothing I dislike about these. The only thing that kept them from being five stars is that they didn’t really have directions. I have used similar before, so it wasn’t a hindrance to me, but to a novice it could be a problem. You can easily look up instructions online, but it would be an extra step.

This is a really good upgrade, however it turns off with the vehicle and you have to turn it on each time you start the car. I have my dashcam connected to it so it is annoying and thought it would be a constant on with the option of turning off manually. Aside from that I like it.

As a life long daily rider and long distance tour and ADV rider I have found that you can never have enough charging power. We all use phones, tablets, laptops, radar, personal location devices, and other devices all the time, and all of them need charging. Often at the same time. These handy outlet panels come equipped with everything needed for easy installation, including very well made and adequate in length wire harness and fusing, and a nice looking surface surround. The unit itself has a very well made snap open and closing cap that seems to keep the weather out. Once installed on the bike, with the surround, it has a very original equipment, high quality look. This small multi port USB panel is a welcome addition to my bike’s charging capabilities. It does a lot for the small space it takes up. When choosing a spot for the installation, make sure you have adequate depth as they require a few inches of clearance under the panel you choose and have worked out the wire loom path. But there should b no need for any other connection parts except possibly wire ties to affix the cabling along the loom path. The fuse and a spare is included, and the connectors that you are likely to use are already in place properly affixed at the wire ends if you go directly to the battery, You may have to change the connectors if you connect to a distribution block. Either way, this will be a simple instal, and well worth the trouble,

I used this USB charging port in my Polaris Ranger SxS. Took out the cigarette lighter socket and put in this USB charging port in its place. This does require some very simple wiring for installation, but its quick and easy. Works great and charge speed is pretty good! I have not actually timed the charge speed, but has not at all seemed slow. Now my phone can always be charged and also have a ports for someone else. Couldn’t be happier.
The dust cover is removable if you don’t need it for your application.
What I really like, and this is application dependent. I want to be able to have this wired to a constant hot wire so power is always available even when SxS is not running. The power switch allows me to do this, yet still turn off the USB charger so that I don’t drain the battery when SxS is parked. If for your application you want there to always be power at the charger when you turn on what ever it is that you install this into, then you may want to get one that does not have a power button.
