Ive put a few fuel pumps in with no issues so it isnt me. Went in fine, it did feel kind of cheesy and not built to good. Figured it would be ok. Well 3 months later and Its not getting power somehow and my jeep wont start. Also lost my fuel gauge within a few weeks. Im really glad I spent the extra money on this junk.

I fitted this fuel module to my 98 XJ Cherokee and it was an exact replacement for the OEM pump.
The fuel tank has to be removed to install the new pump so a good time to give the tank a clean
while it’s out, overall fitting the new pump was the easiest part of the proccess.
My Jeep runs and idles much smoother now and the fuel gauge reads more accurately as well.

Checked fuel rail with tester and confirmed was losing PSI when vehicle was off, resulting in hard starts when cranking back up.
This fuel pump reads really accurate gas mileage, way better than the cheap one I put in. Also looks and feels more quality, I am happy I went with this.
My recommendation is buy this fuel pump. Don’t go cheap, or you will redo this again like I had to. Also if you have rusty bolts holding the gas tank on there is a kit you may want to purchase, mine broke and had to wait for the kit to come in.

Fixed a 2001 Jeep XJ that was hard-starting and ran poorly. Checked fuel pressure with a gauge and it never even got to 20 psi after extended cranking. It dropped to zero immediately after key turned off. Installed this pump and it starts up right away, pressure right around 50 psi. Not hard to change but it can be time-consuming, especially if your rig is rusty.

Great fuel pump if replacing for failures or to get more consistent output. I’ve installed about a billion fuel pumps over the years and I know quality when I see it ,the sock is a better design than the one I pulled out of my 98′ Jeep XJ 4.0L (think it was stock) The float makes a bit of noise after parking but I believe this is due to the tank not having baffles. I barely notice the noise anymore and only lasts till fuel stops sloshing around. Fuel gage is accurate so sender is operating normally. Make sure to clean out tank before installing!! At least this model year does not have an external filter so cleaning tank is critical, especially if it had a pump failure or has had dirt intrusion. Included video of what a clean tank should look like. Sorry for the snap chat images, all I had. Carter pumps = value!

Fit my XJ perfectly!

I installed this on my 98 Jeep XJ, it replaced the OEM assembly with 259K miles on the clock. Of course I would have loved to pull the trigger on a Mopar replacement but I’m never paying three times more for this, especially when it’s not a terribly difficult repair. If you live in the rust belt it would probably be prudent to purchase a new tank strap kit as you will likely need to cut the old ones out.
Be smart and drain the tank as much as possible before attempting to uninstall it.
Pump assembly works great so far and has been on the rig for about 6 weeks. I am happy with this purchase and would do so again if necessary.

They shipped the pump in the retail box, which wasn’t very good. The box literally fell apart in my hands, luckily the pump is in a good “air bag” and was perfectly fine. The last of the XJ jeeps do not have an external fuel filter, it’s built into the check valve, which sits on top of the pump (pic), which is what failed on mine. Had good pressure while running, but once engine was shut off, it would drop to 0. This makes it crank way longer when starting up after it sat for a while, because the pump needs to pressurize the whole system (tank to injector) before the injectors can actually work. So instead of just installing an inline check valve (cheap solution), decided to just replace the 20 year old pump, check valve, and filter all at once with this one product. Tank needs to be dropped, not the best, but just make sure it’s close to empty if you don’t want it to drop on your head, or take a gasoline bath. It was a good thing we replaced the old pump, it had done it’s job well, it was time it went into a landfill … In for a couple of months now, Jeep runs great, starts almost instantly and it gives me the peace of mind you want when offroading…
