Car started cutting out at around 2400 RPM. Check engine light came on. I read the codes and found it was PO 344, Which is intermittent camshaft sensor problem.
Ordered an after market sensor on-line. That one worked for about 4-5 miles and same problem and code came back. Next day it worked fine for maybe 6 miles and cut out again.
Put the original sensor back on in place of the new one. Instant success! Or so I thought until after 8 miles the same problem came back.
After being convinced by members here about how iffy or bad after market sensors are, I ordered a genuine Mopar sensor Genuine Chrysler 5269873AB… via Amazon for $43.90
I wrote the following on a PT Cruiser forum…Ordered new part from Amazon.
Installed it yesterday. I drove it around 10 miles and everything was fine.
Today, I drove it 60 miles, made some stops, many stoplights and mostly highway miles. So now I’m more than convinced, when it comes to that sensor, don’t waste your time and money on aftermarket sensors!
Now I want to share something no one else mentioned. Maybe no one ever looked or checked. But I discovered that with the original and the aftermarket sensors were malfunctioning, the cruise control would not work. Also noticed that the green indicator that usually says “TRIP” when not reading regular odometer was not lit up. But when I pushed the button to turn on the cruise control, the indicator lit up saying “TRIP” like it’s supposed to. Now that the sensor has been replaced, the cruise control works again.
Just thought I’d tell ya’ll about that cruise control for something else that might help diagnose your troubles when you get that dreaded PO344 code.

Part worked perfectly!!! I installed this on a 2003 PT Cruiser 2.4 DOHC. Like other reviews state, it is very critical on these cars to use an original part and NOT an aftermarket. Over the years I’ve installed many of these on other PT Cruisers and other Chryslers with the 2.4 DOHC engine. Don’t waste your money elsewhere. Get an original factory part. Definitely recommend these, for price and they work every time.

Did a lot research trying determine why our 07 PT Cruiser was cutting out at around 2500 rpm. It was a low mileage vehicle (50k) that we just didn’t drive anymore. Originally we had thought the gas was bad. But after spending hours upon hours on the web it became apparent that there was another problem. Most of the articles pointed to the Camshaft position sensor or crankshaft sensor or both. They both seem to be fairly common malady’s that Chrysler products suffer from even at lower mileages. Another thing that stuck out were comments on whether to go aftermarket or factory parts. Many people had problems with the cheaper aftermarket brands.
So we paid a little extra and went with the factory part from a dealer. We also decided to only replace the Cam sensor as most of the diagnoses brought up the issue of the car cutting out at 2500 because that was the limp mode redline. Also because it was an intermittent problem which we had been experiencing. The part came in. Disconnected the ground to the battery after pulling out the air filter air box. Unbolted the the sensor from the front of the cylinder head..2 bolts. Then disconnected the connector. It is kind of tricky to get off as it has a small lock which needs to be moved to the side before you can slide the lock latch out. Then you can disconnect. We inspected the plug for any oil or contaminates (which are no good on the sensor pins) and plugged the new sensor in. Bolted it back up. Attached the battery ground and popped the air box back in. Total time of roughly 20 minutes.
Got in the car. Started on first crank. No engine light. No loss of power or cutting out at 2500 rpm. We then were able to give the car to our nephews without having to worry about whether it was going to break down later. They Love it and it starts every time and they can now get to work on time with out having to call us for a ride!
Moral. Don’t skimp on stuff that counts. Buy factory. If you need a new battery or tires that’s another story.

3 months running good on my 2004 Pt Cruiser and now its bad, replaced it with the old sensor from Auto z and no problems. Trash quality for a premium price, not good.

Great value if really a genuine Mopar part. Car seems to like the part, sensitive to aftermarket parts, so no reason to not believe its legit.

This is an original Mopar Chrysler part sold through Amazon at lower-than-usual prices at Chrysler dealers. It is NOT a cut-price aftermarket imitation made in Asia by low-cost labor with cheaply made materials. Those aftermarket parts, even those marketed through major auto parts chain stores. are known to have a high failure rate and are best avoided.
This part is easily installed by the average home mechanic.
